Skip,
I don't think its fair that members can take info of ICMAG and place it on another site
see: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=112862

compare:

Both ICMAG and RIU have large reputations in the world of cannabis information, and should be treasured by both memberships

Although Ou8aCracker2 did credit Redgreenery and ICMAG,

blatantly copying most of the page then asking for it to be a sticky on RIU, is asking too much, and so far it hasn't been stick eyed,

but I still think you Skip or a mod, should ask for most of that post be withdrawn, as its possibly the most desirable post on canna ventilation on the web ....for your consideration

That's just silly. Information about growing should be shared with everyone, everywhere.

Tell me what harm has been done? And why would you want to limit this secret info on ventilation?

We don't bother telling other websites what to do.

However they are definitely violating copyrights, unless they have permission of the author.

They are violating our copyright as well if they don't have permission from the author.

If someone wants to inform them of that, you're welcome to do that. However it's up to copyright holders to make the claim.

And yes, tons of stuff from icmag has been stolen and posted elsewhere.

There's no need to post up the entire thing. The proper thing to do is link back to icmag so ppl see the original post, not a copy. They do it cause they think it's going to bring more traffic to their sites. They also named the thread the same too, hoping to steal our traffic.

It's a big game websites play to gain traffic. However we have NEVER done that at ICMag. We don't need to steal other website's traffic, members or vendors.

Any site doing that should not be trusted, as it is unethical that the webmasters are allowing illegal activity to boost traffic (copyright violations).

If someone here wants to draw up a list of the most popular copied threads on other websites, I suppose we could go on a notification binge, requesting deletions of such threads from other sites, but you'll quickly see what a big job that is... Plus there's no guarantee they'll cooperate.

If anyone has had their own post copied elsewhere without their permission, you can request a deletion from a mod or admin by reporting the post.

If you have questions regarding such an action, or need help with a reluctant admin, let me know and we'll get involved to protect your copyrights!

Any post you make that is original, is automatically copyrighted the moment it gets posted up in public. You have a right to defend your copyright and can sue anyone who abuses it. But you're only likely to collect monetary damages if you can prove a monetary loss. But the offending website is still obliged to remove the copyrighted post.

To prove copyright just do as the OP did in this thread, identify the original url and copy url. They then must check it out and respond. At that point the website becomes liable if they don't remove it in a timely fashion. BTW, anyone copying something from icmag and posting it on another site, is PERSONALLY liable for the copyright violation.

This is why we request that ppl NOT copy whole articles from other websites (including news sites). That is not right. You can quote a paragraph for review purposes, but you cannot copy an article in its entirety. When you do that you put yourself and icmag at risk of copyright violations, and we will remove any violations upon request.

To be fair, a lot of info here is stuff that has been lifted from old sites that no longer exist.. Quite a lot of things directly from the OG Growfaq. It's Swings and roundabouts..

Of course if anyone takes any of my witticisms elsewhere via copypasta, I shall be very, very cross indeed. It's bad enough being referred to as "Legendary" by the ex member who wrote a book about ICMag, without people pasting my superduperfunny/offensive/downright crass posts on tumbler....

Harry, you are correct, we did take the GrowFAQ and a lot of grow reports from OG and INTEGRATED them with ICMag (they are not just forum posts). However this was a different situation with a defunct website's members requesting the info be posted on ICMag. The copying of the info was not done by ICMag staff, but former members of OG.

Some websites just disappear overnight and all the important info is completely lost to those who contributed and the community in general.

Copying stuff right off a live website, then using the same titles and starting up yet another discussion on the same subject isn't cool at all. Although I can understand why ppl do it. Some ppl do acknowledge the source and even leave a link back - which is the very least one should do when stealing another person's posting.

BTW, I personally felt that posting up the OG info was a great FU to the Canadian gov't and DEA for having shutdown OG.

We were even open to getting all the data from OG and integrating that into ICMag, but it would've presented some technical and legal problems (copyright issues with individual posters) and RC wasn't about to hand over his data for free.

Fair enough, I can see how it's different. I just come at it from the view that getting people the info is what's important, but I don't own the content and my living doesn't depend on it so it's easy for me to have that view.
