Ice Powered Cab Cooler!

Dude... They make 1000 BTU 250w mini personal air conditioners... Generally go for around 250-300, but they would be perfect for cooling a small grow cab I think. And they're small enough that you can easily adapt them into the design of the cabinet so it's all tucked away. Just a thought...

Thats just what I've been looking for. Who makes it and where do you get it?

My cab, which is identical to the Lowes Storeitall, has a 5050btu AC unit inside. Fits with plenty of room to spare.
$88 Walmart

Check out my cab, FG.

There are only two that I've been able to find so far.

One is the Amcor APC2000E. Unfortunately I think just about every single Internet site is sold out of these for 2008. Here's a link with a picture and some specs...Sorry for the link. Too lazy to upload the image.

The other brand is Brookstone. And again, another link because I'm too lazy to upload the images...

For small cabs that require just that little extra help to bring the temps into check these could be quite effective I think. Nothing near a 5000+btu AC of course, but then again it also uses much less power. I think I read the Amcor draws 250w. Unsure about the brookstone, but they look to be of nearly identical design.

Pretty cool..... I wonder how well they work?
Also, where does the heat go?

the heat goes out the back. I just read the reviews and that was the biggest complaint. Hoosierdaddy has the right idea for cab cooling. I'll end up going the same route.

I imagine the best thing to do with these acs would be to leave themout of the cab and vent th cool air in. Or I suppose pump the hot air out from inside- which might be the better solution if you want to take advantage of the thermostat, would take up real estate but.

dont bother with peltiers, they just dont have the btu's and not to mention the addtional engineering to make them cool the air. I have built several peltier cooled terrariums for high elevation pleurothallids and even with 200 watts of TEC's and extreme insulation i could only muster about an 8 degree drop and this is in a tiny space. If you are going to go through all of this trouble to cool the cab why not water-cool the lamp and just efficiently remove the heat before it enters? I have spent easily over a grand toying with peltiers, and they are fun, but they are just hard to get to work for anything like this.

I agree ac's are dirt cheap! HOWEVER,they draw 6-7 amps and sometimes you don't have any to spare. Plus it may be unacceptably loud in many situations.
