whats that supposed to mean, how do you want to know what KG has in his stable and what not? it's not hard after all if you are determined to get certain cuts to get them.
This is not a new conversation. When KG first stated that he had Shoreline he posted pics which looked nothing like Shoreline. He even admitted the only reason he thought it was real Shoreline was because Swerve told him it was Shoreline. This clearly indicates that KG has no experience with Shoreline, and neither does Swerve. I grew Shoreline for years and know exactly what that cut looks like, and KG does not have it (unless he has been sent the real cut now, which is why I asked). I was not the only person to call him out on this. Several other growers who have the cut know KG does not have Shoreline. If he does indeed have the real cut I am only asking to see it. If he does not, however, he has no business telling anyone that he has Shoreline or a cross of it ready for distribution/sale.

cheers man, i actually have another disc of pics that my mate took while there of all the sativas, but my disc drive has stopped reading the fucking discs out of the blue, so i'll have to get it transferred to a stick so i can share them with you guys too.

@ those that asked about entering their buds in this event, the main thing is to get ready well ahead of time. think about what strain you have that stands the best chance, then make sure you have that strain grown out 2 months before April, or even more time if the strains requires a good cure to show it's qualities at it's best. make sure your entry is well trimmed and perfectly represents the strain.
from experience i can tell you getting your entry in at the last moment hardly ever works. so plan to send them in a month ahead of the date, so even if transit is slow it will arrive on time. everything always takes longer then one thinks and last minute entries will risk getting disqualified if they arrive after the date. so you really have to be organized to be in a position to actually enter when the time comes.

Gaius, can we discuss the subjectiveness of the appearance category? You wouldn't judge wine by the appearance of the grapes. I think we're paying attention to something we shouldn't. Most growers have seen perfectly manicured bud that was hay, and I think even more people can relate to the surprise bag that looked like hell but left you a puddle on the floor. Appearance should only matter as far as you're not getting shafted with leaves that obviously should have been trimmed.
In my view the entire idea of what looks good has been skewed toward a California dispensary look that is often excessive in trimming. There's no logical reason this should be the standard for judging, but it is. This last cup fantastic entries were hit in the appearance category because the grower didn't conform to the overly manicured look. That's not judging on merit but on what's fashionable. I think it undermines the usefulness in a cup in determining what was best.

i hear that, it's one of the problems of conceiving a cup concept. consider the problems....no one is able to objectively judge the effect of more then 3 or maybe 5 samples a day. if you wanted to be really objective you'd judge 1 sample a day. it would be the only way to know that none of them are piggy backing on any of the previous samples. so all that people can really judge in the effects department is how strong it is in terms of cutting through previous highs.
so that leaves the other categories, ie. smell, taste, appearance and over all impression. if you think about it appearance is important too, just depends what aspect you find important in terms of appearance. you could judge resin coverage under appearance for eg. although i admit first thing i judge under appearance is the trim job. to me if you enter a cup you should really take the time to do a good trim.

That wasn't me on the unhelpful just so you know. The piggybacking was my exact issue, you'd have to take a month to really do credit to as many entries as this year had. I understand the real world constraints, but I think for my own personal world I'd rather not do it at all than not do it justice. Despite its inherent flaws the iccup is at least transparent. We can see from the voting which breeders/judges appear to have underscored competitors. And we know they're not being bought like most of the 420 titles.

I agree with Carlos Danger. What gaiusmarius calls a good trim Carlos Danger and I call overly trimmed. On my list of criteria for judging pot the trim job would way far down the list. Way down there on the list with the trim job would be taste.
I see breeders describe their strains with all of these flavors and make no comment on the effect. Hell I've seen breeders describe a strain and the only thing they talk about is the taste. I quickly pass that strain and look for a description of a strain where the breeder goes into detail about the effect. I want to know immediate effects, what the high is like for the length of the high, what the come down is like, are their any negative side effects( paranoia, hang over, racing heart rate, headache, too much lung expansion, harshness, sore throat, does it just knock you out, does it make you lethargic) what is it like to use the strain long term or on a daily basis? What is it like to grow? How long does this particular strain need to cure? How does it change with a cure? Does it work well with alcohol? After all of this has been explained at length then you can talk about taste and then appearance. None of this can be done at a cup and that is why the results don't mean anything to me. I feel that somehow we have gotten it all backwards and we are trying to act like wine snobs.
