We want fast and tasty food that is cheap.. so they put all the crap in to make us crave it, and produce a lot of it easily and cheaply.. and we then buy it. Honestly, in europe all food that is mostly unprocessed is at a premium now, you need to be kinda rich to eat it. And I don't mean to eat out, that is more and more expensive as well, a whole diferent league of expensive where most people will start to consider it a luxury. From what I have seen fast food prices are now up to the prices for regular restaurant food portions from a year or two ago. They blamed energy costs for it, but they will never make them cheaper since we continue to buy them at this price..
I expect pretty soon they will start to push the crickets and insect protein as a health and ecological alternative to meat, and maybe even to bulk up protein in meat products. Basically we are headed for a soylent green future, at least for the poorer half of the population!
