I want to grow & sell marijuana (legally)

I'm in Canada. I want to make money off of cannabis. I like growing the plant and I think the applications for growing the crop are only going to grow exponentially (no pun intended).

Is this a worthwhile market to set out in? What do I need to do to get started?

Not trying to be rude. but if you have to ask and all that... got a lot to take on board before you could even realistically dream about it.

Knowledge. You need a LOT of knowledge that is hard to parse coming from a completely uninformed place. The signal/noise ratio these days is not good, and you need to be able to reliably parse the signal from the noise. Money, you need a fair bit of money you can afford to lose. A good grow room is not cheap, nor easy to set up with no real knowledge. Genetics... that in some way stand out from "the rest", and there's a lot of "the rest" around. Everyone has "elites" now, and you probably do not. Customers... why would people choose to buy from you, and how do you get to them?

So, it's a nice pipe dream. But you have to be starting from a point that gives you a leg up, which you do not seem to be able to do. Maybe I'm wrong... but I'm betting you're pretty young?

1. Whats your experience? Have you worked on big scale? Are you able to scale? Growing a few plants, maybe even a 4 lamp room, is nothing compared to a 100 light facility. Problems you fight on small scale might be easier on big scale, but the bigger it gets, new problems will appear. Are those are often way more fatal, than what happens to a small grow. You can spray spinosad on your 4 plants, but scale that up to 1000-5000 plants and it will take you hours and days. And then the next problem already appeared.

Are you familiar with SOPs? Are you able to write your own SOPs? Work in a team with people following you?

Are you able to calculate your finances? Do you have any idea of the market in canada? In case you are not having unique phenos and strains and you are not a growing god, you will need to compete with a lot of, already well established, competitors. The canadian market is, afaik, way over saturated. Prices hit rock bottom and you either need to be outstanding or go for a niche.

Its a nice thing to dream of and if you are having a plan, you might succeed, but I think you should be waaay more into detail about that stuff. All what I wrote should have gone through your mind already a few times till now. If you, you should reconsider. And those are just the questions I spontaneously could think about. Maybe give some more info about you and your experiences.

I cant really speak for Canada specifically but i can speak of most legal and close to legal markets (for example Spain): the money is not in growing, its in dispensary/last hand. As soon as a "green boom" starts happening you see a steep drop in prices paid to growers and many many operations struggle and go under. The more legal it is the more operations in scale is the only viable alternative. I believe in Canada regulations and market depends on which territory your in.

Probably you’ll make more money growing micro greens but I often wondered if there’d be a market for none gmo landrace type plants. Must be a reason no one’s doing it, just seems odd no one would buy Thai stick if it was available.

Between very long flowering time and if "not being the same as that one i smoked in the 80ies" its not very profitable next to modern hybrid strains.

Well if you have a niche with solvent customer base (i try to avoid the Word "connossieur") you can communicate and sell everything.

Make it a little exclusive and they will rip it from your hands. All that in case its really better than the industrial stuff or the craft stuff out there.

In my opinion you should come at it from this angle...

I love this plant so much that i want my life to revolve around it. and maybe someday i can make some money doing what i really love.
