i smoke a half ounce a month

So i figure i want to be uber stealth, get out of buying completely real soon and up my quality in the process, im a light smoker that needs an ounce every two months, i could burn weed all day believe me and smoked recently two ounces in 5 weeks but its overkill to be honest for me. to produce this with minimal effort what would your guys ideas be, cfl or pl-l style only, no hid even though i know they kick ass, again easy is the idea..........im taling a small dresser or speaker, computer fans.....any ideas mates...really apriciate it :dueling:

I would suggest you to go HID even if you don't smoke much. Overhere, mj growing is still a big deal, so I'd rather grow less often but enough to cover my needs. A small HID will give you more than what you need alllowing you to grow less plants, less often & even try some long flowering/lowyielding plants without any chance to fully empty your stach. I saw many stealth/cheap 250w grow.

I'd suggest growing with 125w-200w CFL, depending on space limitations. Due to heat issues in my larger cabinet I'm currently doing my summergrow in my little growbox that I use to veg during winter. It's equipped with 125 watter, floor space is roughly 1,5 sqft and little under 2ft in height. Ventilation is completely taken care of with 120mm computer fans, temps stay around 25 and the plants seem to thrive. Three weeks into flowering I'm guessing I'm going to yield somewhere around 30-50 grams dry. Oh and I have 2 plants in there, a Night Shade and a Cinnamon, both LST'd. So, going along those lines a setup a little like mine would most likely get you to the 1/2 ounce a month.

I thought about small wattage HID's as well but since my space is so small in height CFL's work better, plants can grow right next to the bulb and even touch it with no probs.

Hope this helps.

guys lets try to keep the forum clean, read before u respond, i specifically said no hid lights, now someones suggesting i use a 400 watt and another is suggesting i grow more then i said i wanted to grow? maybe i should just nock out my whole garage with 8 bulbs huh? forget it, im of to mirco grow forums land :abduct:

Don't be an ass. These guys know where your coming from and are giving sound advice. Don't knock a small HID grow unless you thoroughly thought about it and all the different pro's and con's. You dont want to go big, fine. Noone is suggesting that you run 8000w in your garage. But the advice given is sound. Even if you dont want to hear it.

CFL's of any kind will give you what you want, and with less heat, which means, less fan noise, and since stealth is a concern for you, I would say go CFL.

The PL-L look to be the best bet in CFL at the moment, that could change tomorrow if something new is released. That said, there is nothing wrong with the standard CFL's you get at wally world or home depot...

I would suggest for you to look at an NGB style cabinet if you are not all ready familiar with it, and the other similar type cabinets out there. One could easily be made similar but in a dresser. If you have 220 watts of PL-L - Over a Scrog of two plants, you should easily yield what you need. Might even yield it with less light. (I tend to throw too much light at a problem, I view light like an all you can eat buffet - LOL)

Look up threads by CFLking and Thunderkel. They're both in the land of CFLs.

As someone who started using standard t8 shop lights and 150w hps almost 10 years ago, I can tell you that you should invest in the HID now.
You can produce what you want on such a small scale, but the effort and time involved will quickly make you wish you had started a bit bigger.

Make no mistake: Growing is a job and will consume you. It will eat up your free time, and on such a small scale you will probably find it more cost effective just to buy.

I smoke about the same amount as you, and quickly realized that 150w hps was just not enough. CFL's will produce smokable bud, but I think you will find it difficult to keep yourself satisfied and still find it worth the time and effort (and risk) involved in growing.

I agree with MME Oscar: Grow more, less often. You can crop out at almost a pound (once you get good) from a single 400w........then you could take the rest of the year off!!!

My 150 kept me in smoke for 14 years. And that's without IC guidance. The numbers of growers using CFLs here are legion. Maintenance takes what, an hour a month?

Let's help the guy do what he wants. It may not be your way but, it's the right way for many.

i would suggest buying a 2ft X 6-8 bulb t5 setup. the plants i grew under my t5s produced .86gpw and never grew past 10in tall. you can go cfl but i think its alot simplier to buy one light fixture that is easily moved up and down in a dresser. you can get a cheap dresser, hack off all the draws doors, glue them to a piece of plywood and buy 2 door hinges. you can cut out holes for intakes an exhuast ports. good luck

It just honest help, not dirtying up a forum. Alot people start off with the same thought you have, then realize that grow is more addicting then smoking. So when you drool over the idea of growing bigger buds, just for the "sport" youll understand why people suggest hids.

Plus as someone posted above search the micro section, and youll do your part to keep the forums "clean" as you say. peace. and smoke1 :joint:

Just another guy who thinks that if you plug in one HID light his electricity bill is going to jump $400/month. There's a million of them.

I stand by my earlier statement.

If you live in most countries, you will go-directly-to-jail-do-not-pass-go, just for growing a few plants.
Why grow 12 months a year to get a small amount each harvest, when with just a small cabinet with HID can produce enough so you only need to grow 1 harvest per year. (4-6 months)
Far less risk.
