I must get it from my mother

Heh just make sure you remember your real name nevermind...if you keep using fakes you might forget! lol

I think this is overly paranoid though and could cause more trouble than it could save. I mean like someone said what if a situation comes up one day when someone calls you your normal name or says something when your talking to your neighbor? Then they find out you lied...don't trust you, and obviously think you have something to hide. If you just gave em your first name in the first place then it wouldn't be a problem.

I can see why your mom would do it in the newspaper if she works for an agency people might have problems with or want to get revenge on her, but in your case it seems a little over paranoid.

I know I'd have trouble keeping track of what name I gave who, not to mention I wouldn't want to be near anyone that knows my name when I'm near people that know the fake...ya know.

anybody in our line of business has to be careful & if you think he is paranoid ,well he will be the one laughing when the cops show at the house of the person that tells everyone their real name.

Nevermind, I think it's a good plan.

I personally wish that I could do the same, but A) I still have a hard time breaking out of conditioning when introducing myself etc. B) I'm still in school (and applying to grad school... *fingers crossed* ) most acedemics institutions frown on pseudonyms. Which brings me to a question:

What about resumes and jobs and such? I'm assuming that you've already got a reasonably secure career thing worked out (lucky bastard...) since it's sounds like you're pretty settled (also, lucky bastard...). When did you start *really* using your pseudonym though? If I'm trying to build a resume it's not very helpful when accomplishments or contacts come up under different names/identities... did you run into the same problems?

as an aside: I do tend to just sign with an "X" on those stupid electronic signature pad thingies (supermarket, UPS, etc.). It's not like it'll look like your sig anyways with the funky angle and wierd feeling pen, besides nobody checks them and my signature doesn't look very consistent even on paper... anybody else hate those?
