I have to go to jail on friday for 1 month. How bad does it suck?

The kids that tore the "Bullets" getting them out of their ass and got fecal matter on the product....would just sell it on the yard anyway. People were so addicted to it they didn't really care.
Nope...didn't use tobacco...got stoned a couple times...drank some pruno,pills....all kinds of pills. Just out of nothing to do really. Running laps,lifting weights,playing guitar...for 5 years.

That whole "over 100 plants" thing will fuck your life up!

It's generally a miserable time while you're there but after it's over you'll probably think "That wasn't so bad". Life goes on...a month in jail is wasted time but it's nothing in the big picture. Remember that.

As for tips, some will vary from place to place because sheriff's set their own rules. There's a big difference between Maricopa County jail and Fairfax County VA jail. Best to check with the Sheriff's office if you aren't sure about something. Sheriff's websites usually have good info for inmates too.

My tips in no particular order here.
Bring money with you to be put into your inmate account for commissary. Bring the max allowed for your account. Sometimes "normal" junk food and toiletries helps to relax a new inmate and you can only get that stuff from commissary.

Related to that is never take a loan on anything from anyone ever. If you don't show up with money and use jail issue stuff some guy will offer to "let you borrow something". Don't do it! You never know what he'll ask for in repayment and more than a few fights have kept people locked up longer than their short sentence over loaning or borrowing stuff. It's a recipe for trouble.

Related to that is long timers will purposely mess with short timers. It's basically a misery loves company sorta deal. Keep your charges, sentence length, and all that TO YOURSELF! Don't talk about your past or what you're involved in. Most peeps are cool and just want to make conversation but you never know what will happen or who you tell the wrong thing to so best to just keep your personal info to yourself.

If you're a "normal" white guy in a particularly rough jail or a jail with few whites, GET A LITTLE FRIENDLY WITH A WHITE DEPUTY THAT WORKS YOUR UNIT! They know how the jails work and will watch out for you. That doesn't mean be a snitch or a kiss ass. Just let the deputies know there's a "normal" white guy there that they should look out for.

Take advantage of programs and activities. Itll make the time go much faster if you get a job in the jail or go to rec often or use the law library to expand your mind. Sitting in your cell all day sucks and is boring and makes time go slow. There are exceptions to this like if you can sleep easily or love to read books then staying in your cell might be a good thing to keep out of trouble.

Watch your property! Lots of thieves in jail. Nuff said.

That's a few things off the top of my head. I know it sucks and feels like a long time but if you keep yourself busy and keep your head on straight then you'll be fine.

That does suck but probably won't be a full month if you behave. Depending on your offense, usually as long as it isn't a violent offense you'll get assigned a job of sorts. Just get yourself into some sort of routine and the time will pass quickly. When I was in, I got to catch up on a ton of reading that I hadn't had the time to do before or since!

Jail ain't prison. You should be kept with sentenced, short timers much like yourself, folks with a year or less to do. Although you may occasionally run across a sociopath on his way to bigger and better things, for the most part no one wants to pick up a beef that would send them to prison for a helluva lot longer.

All jails are different though. Your best bet for information on jail time where you are is by asking friends or people you know that have done a 30, 60 or 90 day stretch in your local jail. Do they have a farm system? do they have a separate "sentenced only" facility? Do they (as put down by federal guidelines) separate unsentenced and sentenced prisoners? Do they separate felons and misdemeanors?

You can get caught up in a trick-bag quick if you go in acting a fool. Keep your yap shut, mind your own business, but keep your eyes open. Don't borrow shit from anyone unless you knew them from before. You ain't "doin' time" you're doin' 30 days. Get in, get out, don't make life long friends, they're criminals fer crissakes!

find out ahead what you can bring like underwear, socks etc. Usually they have to be white, and you have to wear them in, yes wear 3 pairs of underwear, 3 socks etc. Have your name written on them with black magic marker. Usually the jail will wash your personal clothes once a week, and the shit comes back in one big pile and its a cluster fuck with 30 people trying to look through the pile

Do not bitch about your month. There will be guys in there with no bond, already sentenced to prison, maybe back from prison for new charges, guys looking at lots of time, etc.

Do not trust anyone, white, black, chineese, hispanic, etc. Jail is FULL of professional con men.

Do not gamble unless you KNOW you have money in your canteen account.

Do not 2 for 1 unless you know you have money on the books

I have found jail/prison to be easier as you get older. When you are young, you get involved with the jitterbugs. The older folk tend to be more laid back

You will be fine, just maintain a low profile, dont get caught up in bullshit.


BTW jail and prison are 2 different places. All that ass pounding usually happens at prison, not jail. And usually there are enough punks who like it, that they dont need to fuck with those who dont.

I know a guy who going to jail for winter is his yearly routine. Doesn't mind it at all.

It sucks bro...bring some magazines and a few books....It will be the longest month of your life.easy! just try to sleep as much as possible....read all night and sleep all day, or as much as you can. Good luck man...you can do it, no prob, its all mental. Jail is mostly people waitin to goto court for non violent crimes. A fight would mean extra time , no one wants that.

some tips

1. when you come to turn yourself in, wear 2+ pairs of socks, so you can wash them in the sink annd dry them out while youre wearing a fresh pair and have clean dry feet because theres alot of feet fungus inn jail, always wear sandals in the shower. After you take a shower make sure you feet get dry. 2 pairs of undies and 2 shirts isnt a bad ideal if they let you keep your shirt, not all jails let you keep your shirt but if its plain with no logos. Laundry is only like once a week.

Jail is mostly made of people waiting for court for a non violent crime. The savage gang lifestyle reallly doesnt start till prison buts its somewhat there in big jails with big mods. Inmates for the most part are bonded together because youre all locked up by the guards and dont want to get in a fight so they can spend extra time there.

dont stay up all night either, thats tweaker shit and your cell mate wont like it, nighttime is for sleeping and its prob going be to dark to do shit anyway

i dont fuck with probation or even pay fines, just serve that shit out and done with it people.

If everyone else is in there for a year or less, waiting on court dates and what not, it will be fine, you might see one or two fights tops, but that's about it, play games, read, watch TV, get used to the inch thick plastic mattress and matching one inch pillow.
Give someone money before you go in to put on your commersary card for you, snacks help the time pass, and if your cell mate is broke you can hook him up with the occansional pop and he'll be happy as hell.
Kick back, don't think about it, get yourself a little routine, and it will be over before you know it.
