I have to go to jail on friday for 1 month. How bad does it suck?

Well, I guess I'm not going to get a very long thread here. Heh, I'm just sitting here smoking on some amazing sour d because I'm off probation, well not in the honest way. I got revoked and have to go to jail for a month for a class b misdemeanor.

I live in Texas and most people I've talked to have told me that I'm going to be one one the only white people in the jail. So I might get messed with a little bit. But I guess a month can't be that long.

Anybody here been to jail for any real period of time? (over 2 or 3 weeks) Can anybody give me some tips? The longest time I've been in jail is like 6 hours in the holding tank so I really don't know much about sitting in there for weeks and what it would be like

I'm Trying to keep my head high and try to go in there not looking like a total wuss who is scared, nor am I going to be so confident I'd come off as a jerk.

You know, minimum security prison is no picnic. The trick is: kick someone's ass the first day, or become somebody's bitch. Then everything will be alright.

Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck there Hail. Sounds like you've got a handle on the jail thing - it's usually not nearly as bad as you think it's going to be. Just be cool and don't obsess about getting out. Settle in for the duration and it'll be over before you know it. Really, it's not that bad. I once did four months in solitary. That was fun. County jail is nothing unless it's more of a city area. And even then it's still nothing. People make jail sound so bad but they don't know. You'll probably make friends and have some menial job to do. It'll just be a bit boring so work out alot and read if you can.

when i was 17 i spent a week in the government center satellite jail in Dallas, it was the luck of the draw between that place & like 4 others. Guys were saying the last place you want to go is goverment Center.

Shit was overcrowded, an all metal cell with maybe 20 beds & like 30 guys. Those not there long slept on a mat. They had segregated cells & the next one over was all black, ours was mixed. I was pretty luck in that we has a solid group of guys that didn't allow any fighting or anything so it was cool, just played cards & shoot the shit. The next cell over was a different story.

expect to get some catcalls & minor testing just to see if your a total bitch, just brush it off & don't even mess around, do your month, make a few friends (connections) & you will be out in no time.

Try doing 5 years for growing herb and then tell me how bad 1 month sucks. The guys that came in and cried about doing two weeks when some of us had a mandatory minimun of 5 years with up to 15 hanging on our head was pretty irritating. I suggest you don't go in to a pod full of timers and complain about it.

First place I went was a maximum security prison and was put in a cell with a guy that raped a 2 year old. You learn real quick how to fashion weapons,etc.,hopefully you never have to go through that.

Jail.... well jail is jail. It's fucked. But it depends where you are. Jail around here isn't jail in FL or CA. people will test you.... it's some of these guys hobby. You just have to have self respect. They can tell when you're trying to front. You can't walk in with an attitude like "I'm a badass and these guys will respect that" Always someone bigger. Jail or penitentiary is about respect.

You can't disrespect others and you sure as shit can disrespect yourself.

Being the only white is rarely a good thing..... anywhere anytime. Anyone says diff never went to jail. The white guys in there aren't your friend either but take what you can get.

In regards to the person that said tell the brothers you have a black wife..... well, I'll let you think on that but they hate white boys that act "down".

Best advice I can give..... it's a different ball game these days, old days, and I hate to say it, the AB kept shit square.

it won't be as bad as you think unless you get a prick trying to fuck with you. Stick to yourself, locate those who you can shoot the shit on the day to day and leave people the fuck alone. Also depending on your age, leave the young ones alone who are puffin their chests at you.

Remember it is ONLY 1 month. Now if you were in fed, I would say hang with your race and don't touch anybodies shit and hope they don't touch yours.

Also, if someone does want to fight DON'T... you will end up stuck there longer, then it keeps extending. Not worth it, no pride to prove in the pen. Everyone in there got there because they did something stupid SO don't feel like you need to prove SHIT to anyone.

Be friendly, don't talk politics, religion, gangs, neighborhoods or anything that might corner you into a division with others. Keep on music, arts, books, get excersize and keep your head up and your eyes on your back.

Do not say you have mixed race anything to try and get buddies, if it is true then great but don't try and pretend to be something you are not because spotting fakes won't be that hard in there lol.

I also would never bring up my time or talk about it as though you are a seasoned penpal either. You fucked up, gunna do a bit a time and get out and anyways they don't need to be asking your time or what you did in the first place.

On that hit a big guy bullshit, that is the fastest way to be turned into a punk. You puff like that and knock someone out then you will be in for double/triple the time THEN have his buddies and him to deal with as well especially if you didn't even send him to the infirm.

Contact the jail or whoever now and find out all the details... Stuff like what you can bring if anything, how much you can initially put in your canteen and the info for whomever will deposit after that if they won't let you put in enough to cover your stay. Ask about the phone arrangements, may need some kind of calling card if you don't want to call people collect, but it depends on the jail. Ask whoever you speak to for any random tips they may have.

One example, I didn't know I could bring a pair of long underwear or thermals, as you would just get a loose top and pants initially and had to buy undershirts/pants from the canteen, so I was pretty cold for a few days till the order arrived.

Everyone else is on the rest.. Jail is no big deal. People in there are like awaiting trial or will not be in there for the rest of their life, likely not more than a couple years tops. Basically everyone but the total idiots are going to be pretty well behaved, so like, avoid those cats when possible and just keep it cool with everyone else.

Being in there a month, you prolly won't even get a job, so it will be mostly up to you to pass the time. What is available to you depends on the jail. Keep it cool with any cellmates... Give them some alone time in the cell to beat off and take a shit during the day hehe. Toss em' a jolly rancher and shit if they are broke and have no canteen food.

Bout all I got. Good luck dude, but, I think the worst you need to prepare for is extreme boredom

edit - visitation info.. Make sure you get that now and give to all your peoples if you want to have them come see you. There were a lot of bs restrictions, so knowing them beforehand will make it easier for your peoples to swing by and say hello. Trust me, friends stopping by was like the highlight of my days and is definitely the best way to pass the time, so maximize it if you can.

OH also don't go around telling people what you have in your canteen or get a bunch of fuckin shit. Also givin shit up also isn't a good thing to start with as far as making friends because that does'nt end up too well. My buddy went in for 6 months a couple years ago and I just busted up laughing when he told me his attempt at making friends and them tappin out his account WITH him happily doing it. Keep whats yours but if you locate a cool guy, its your business what you do with your shit. Just don't walk around tossin shit trying to round up friends.

@ county jail intake it funny to watch the guys that say they have a monkey on their back or are suicidal... they take them out, strip them, put a paper gown on them and put em in a cell with no mattress.

It's a hoot.... dunno how good it gets from there....
