I feel like I'm on an F'n battlefield!

As most know, I am in MA and this state has some of the strictest gun laws around. That doesn't seem to stop the crazy nut POS's around me!

There seem to be 2 or 3 separate parties shooting regularly, 1 doing so obscessively, and it feels like being in a war zone! It makes me briefly have violent thoughts or wish someone else would "take action".

It started 2 or so years ago as someone just shooting a shotgun a few times during the day during non-hunting season, on a street south of me. Then it got more frequent and was even done after 11 PM and came from different spots like someone was driving around shooting out their window!

Then someone or 2 parties started shooting to the north and west of my place. Someone has shot occasionally for about a year, but did so sensibly and was not a problem.

Then there was this guy to the north of me, who spent the whole summer and a good part of the fall clear cutting a large area behind me and raping and pillaging the land removing stone walls and lumber and selling them. Annoyed and pissed me the fuck off, but nothing I could do!

That chainsaw guy is a known sportsman and unstable heavy alcoholic. He would often take long pauses when I did not know whether he was there or not. One such time, I shot once with a shotgun. A week later, my brother went up to see if he was cutting trees on our land. He was in a rage saying someone shot at him ( that shot was nowhere near him) and he claims he told the cops (I doubt it, as it is a near certainty he had plenty of problems with the law). He said he was seriously considering coming back with an AK47 and use it. My bro explained no one was shooting at him and just at bird feeder pests. Then the guy got friendly and they shot the shit for a while.

Then, one morning, maybe a month ago (?) someone was shooting for like 4 hours straight with only pauses to reload. Loud cannon blast-like shotguns just behind my place, with occasional hand gun fire and even a few rounds of automatic fire. Cops came racing up the road with lights and sirens blazing. We checked it out.

There is a dirt road behind us. The first house is where this violent abusive alcoholic religious cult fanatic lived with his abused wife and several crazed kids (one of which now lives there with wife and kids and with a provocative POS son in law), in a small shitty trailer. For the longest time, he was the only house on that road. There are at least 3 other houses now, and on the other end of the road is where that clearcutter nut has his parcel.

So that first time the 4 cops came, they were at one house on that road that is all fenced in with a tall fence and childrens swing sets and all.

In today's mass shooting event, I went and drove by and had to move over to let a waving cop pass, who went to that first house that once had the shitty trailer. I drove a little and came back and saw him there and I came up my hill and there was still shooting, either while the cop was still there or just as soon as he left. This is getting rather old fast and may make me even more nuts! :D

I am all for the right to bear arms and target shoot or hunt. But, this goes way beyond any sane level, hundreds if not thousands of rounds! I don't know how they can afford it! When I target shoot or any other shooting, I take only a few shots at a time, maybe a second round of a few more, and stop. I don't rapid-fire shoot 6 shots and keep reloading and doing the same for hours like these nuts, whose only intent seems to be to annoy or provoke. Some of these shots seem to make a whooshing sound like they just barely miss the house. (they finally seem to have stopped after 2+ hours straight) What can be done?

>> I don't know how they can afford it!

They probably re-load, like the Indian tribe Sons of Anarchy buys their fictional bullets from.

Sounds like a target range.

I would put up 5 gallon buckets of gravel, spaced so they overlap - it would make a zig-zag pattern. Up to a height of however tall you are.

That kind of cheap 'driveway gravel' usually goes for $1.29 a bucket or something like that. WAAY cheaper than a fvcking bullet.

I am as gun oriented as anyone. I made an aluminum bra for one of my AR15 lowers, wondering if it might be marketable. If I ever go back to corporate America, I think there's a good chance it will be for one of the gun companies.

Different people definitely have different shooting styles. I shoot 2 or 4 or 6 to make a cluster that it's easy to find the geometric center of, with a ruler and a pencil. So 6 clusters on maybe 7 targets - 42 bullets for a 2 hour shooting session.

Meanwhile, the next range over, some guy is unloading literally 500 rounds of 223/ 5.56.

It sounds like you have some really dumb gun-owning people in your neighborhood, and that's dangerous.

>> What can be done

The official answer is, Vigilante Justice doesn't work.

I disagree.

But as far as dis-arming stupid people with guns, rational talk, almost by definition, is not going to work.

To really answer the question we would need to know more about the demographics of the situation. Income, race, crime level ... all the stuff that people don't like to talk about and politicians treat like a third rail.

Almost sounds like, a Kobayashi Maru situation, one that cannot be survived unless you change the rules.

Could always give them some Tannerite. Then they're more a danger to themselves.

you obviously live in the country, people move to the country so as not to be fucked with. there usually aren't any laws against target/sport shooting unless safety issues are being ignored, which might be the reason that leo has been called.

Noise ordinances in the country are generally defined by the clock, such as 'No later than 10pm and no earlier than sunrise.' Sunrise being the time many hunters are availed of their first opportunity to bag game, so the laws must reflect the states hunting ordinances (sun up to sun down) or every hunter could be brought up on charges.

Unless one of your gun toting neighbors has a recent felony conviction there probably isn't much you can do about them shooting 'til their hearts content. I target shoot on my land, my neighbors do too. My land borders a river and hundreds of forested land so when every goose/duck season opens it sounds like a Baghdad (or Los Angeles) wedding party in full swing. Add upland game bird and a very long big game season and it makes for a lot of shooting.

I don't think that there's anything you can do about the gunfire, moving to another rural setting will result in the same outcome, and idk about you but after living in the country since '88 I'm not sure I'd be able to cope with moving back into any city's.......

Lucky you dont live near me. LOL. We have "mass shooting events" (LOL) all the time at my range.

I hear guns sometimes but not often. The worst for me was the sound of leaf blowers almost every day in Florida.......haunting....

Out where I live, you hear guns all the time. It doesn't bother me.

Now the nearest town has emergency sirens that they blast all the time it seems like. When the wind is right, they are loud as hell and extremely annoying.

gunfire does not bother me. i hear pistol shots fairly regularly, and i live in a densely packed neighorhood in a town where you will go to jail for discharging a firearm inside of city limits.

I would move. Thats ridiculous.

thanks man you are a voice of reason!
Stone trout I kind of thought you'd take that stance, but understand I am not a little old cranky grampie upset about kids on the grass or an old gramma that can't take any noise. I am all for sensible fun but when you disregard everyone else's rights, well your private parts should be roasted on the fire as far as I am concerned as that is not right. I did not call these cops of course, someone else did because like me they were being driven nuts by these nuts! They obviously had clips and took only like 2 second breaks to reload them.

It is one thing to hear shots in the distance, or even kind of close, but to hear rapid explosively loud shots every day and sometimes for hours, that is not cool and not called for. There has to be a balance somewhere between one person's right to do something and the right to the other person to have sanity. I use guns as a tool not a plaything and always hated how loud they sound. My mom used to say a long time ago when my father shot jays by the dozens and more recently when my bro and I shoot "freeze the baby". my bro and I were babies once and he had no consideration for anything besides whatever mattered to him at the moment in his loony head. I and my bro complained of cold and were scared by all the horrific noise but it did not matter. Same with these SOB's. I treat total strangers as family and would not do to them what I would not done to me. It seems we are different and that's ok but we got to respect that and each other not mock or disregard it.

It was one strange day to say the least, from the warmly waving cops that for a brief second made me second guess my total utter hate for them (I was on his side for once if it meant a law was broken and that SOB could be punished for what he put so many hrough) . I went out and the day continued strange but at least in a mostly pleasant way... a nice warm wonderful day to be alive. I edited out all the soap opera-like BS. will check in later.

From your initial post, I got the impression that the neighbors were not just noisy, but literally dangerous.

Is it more a noise issue, or a stray bullet issue ?

Ah, quit bitching and grab a gun and join them!

So you don't care if they shoot you just have a problem with the rate of fire??

Legalizing/easing the possession and use of suppressors in every state would go a long way to making everyone a bit happier.

wait till they go to bed, lights out etc. then YOU open up with a full auto 10-22 shooting tracers. keep those cocksuckers up all night & see how THEY like it... a buddy used to set fireworks off with an alarm clock, an old car battery, & some small heating coils to light the fuses. hide them at random aimed at the target house & go shopping or something...:tiphat: so far it sounds like the pain is a one way street.
