A little heavily odor controlled 4-6 plant box will be fine.
Hide it behind a massive wall of crap in the basement, stacked boxs, rolling clothes racks, etc.....
Seen it done before with no problems, apartment manager stood 5 feet from the box and had no clue, thanks to a massive wall of junk.
Something that small could be torn down in under ten minutes in an emergency if you had to.

lol no its not me thats doing this. its my computer illiterate friend next to me.
i think what will end up happening is... he will build a sealed cabinet on the floor lining the wall somewhere in the house. if there is little activity(like 1 hr a week, twice a month) the cabinet could cut it. if there are wishy washy times and alot of maintenance ppl coming over, he will obviously have to trash everything and chalk it up and a monetary loss.
FWIW, what it sounds like is... the house is being sold as is(shouldnt be any workers stopping by to redo electric/plumbing etc...) wont be on the market til spring. and i highly doubt there will be an "open house" type showing. i would expect only relatively brief private showings lasting no more than an hour.
if thats how its going to be. do you think a sealed cabby to hide them for an hour will hold up(with no fans running). might be able to run a stealth ozone gen tucked away somewhere. will definitely be using scented oil sticks or other mild odor blockers.

ya i think this route might be do-able. as long as the box isnt big enough to obstruct the layout of the room(and isnt buzzing). worst case scenario- he gets busted. likely worst case scenario- he has to trash everything 4 weeks into flower

there's no way I'd do this..I've lived in rentals that are for sale and it's a pain dealing with the realtors...When ever they showed it to buyers (I was always home but didn't grow) they would let them walk freely around my house unsupervised...I was amazed how the realtor would just say "go ahead and take a look upstairs"..I was pretty worried about people stealing shit from me..I mean it doesn't take anything at all to get shown a house, not even an ID.
If your friend is realllly dead set on growing there..and money isn't an object, buy a shitty RV for about 2k and grow in it....
edit: seems to me your friend made up his mind before you started this thread and you're just fishing for people that agree with you to make yourself feel more secure in making what you know is a bad decision.

i like the RV idea compared to trying to pull this off inside the house. theres always the option of picking up an elbow and sitting on it until summertime when he needs to find a new place anyways, but its hard to arrange something like that. the ppl i trust dont usually pick up more than a half, and they'd like to make a little money on that, so....
its also hard to find a good, reasonably priced, place in my area that will suit my friend's needs

Why not just ask your mom for the money for 6-8 zips to tide you over until you can get back on your feet?

Not worth the risk buddy trust me. Perhaps a small stealth cab could be pulled off but don't push your luck with anything bigger play it safe.
