everyone at the hydro shop i go to has glassy eyes and pony tails...

it's funny, i go in there all the time and the guys are real helpful recommending me things to try and have good advice... but they've never asked what exactly it is i'm growing and i've never volunteered the information.

they know who puts food on their table, they're not stupid. buying lights and fertilizers isn't illegal.

brainthor - For your 1qt grow high temps - Why not get a larger container, fill it with water, and put your 1qt container in there. Then you could put ice or frozen water bottles or something in the outer container, which would insulate/cool the 1qt grow.

bounty you shop at the church? ha love that place....sorry your avatar kinda gives you away. Your safe with me. The store i shop at Now due to my new location has a bunch of dready hippies working in it, and the owner had a green gurilla shirt on the other day> seems like a joke to me. the only thing that scared me once was some kid recognizing me from my area who i wouldn't trust as far as i could throw. i shop online mostly now.

I know my guy and I are both on the same wavelength, but we both play it safe and keep quiet. I've used "tomatoes" before to ask about cloning gel "Would tomatoes be considered a soft wooded plant?".

It's a tiny shop, with one book on mushrooms and those huge rotating circular ebb flow rigs, the guy is really nice and helpful to the point that he won't get either of us in trouble.

I would try and find a nice little shop you can tell is on the same wavelength, one without the old ladies looking for that perfect orchid growing setup. Gotta admir them old ladies and their orchids, they must feel the same passion most of us here do for their gardening :).

oh and ask all your questions on the forums, figure out what you want, go in, grabbit, and leave. Being quite sure to stay quiet on the details.

Garden Shop Owners Indicted In Marijuana Manufacturing Conspiracy
DEA: Defendants Offered Advice and Equipment to Dozens of Marijuana Growers

APR 11 -- (SEATTLE) – The DEA’s Seattle Field Division announced six people were arrested this morning after being indicted by a federal grand jury for conspiracy to manufacture marijuana and conspiracy to commit money laundering. The arrests stem from a year-long investigation in which law enforcement officials seized thousands of marijuana plants at over 30 indoor locations in and around South King County.

It is alleged that at the center of the conspiracy was Kent Distributor, Inc., also called Kent Garden Supplies, which is located at 18840 72nd Ave. S., Kent, Washington. According to the indictment, the company purchased supplies and equipment from the U.S. and Canada and then resold them to other conspirators for use in marijuana grows. The store’s owners and employees also allegedly provided advice to co-conspirators about how to grow marijuana and protect their assets while avoiding law enforcement detection. Some conspirators were even allowed to get supplies and equipment on credit and pay back the debt with profit from their marijuana crop.

“Today, the DEA, along with our federal, state, and local partners, short circuited a very sophisticated, expansive, and organized drug trafficking network,” said Rodney G. Benson, DEA Special Agent in Charge. “By providing subject matter expertise to marijuana cultivators, this organization was in the process of altering the landscape of marijuana manufacturing in the northwest, further endangering our neighborhoods and communities.”

The indictment also charges that more than $5,000,000 was laundered through Kent Distributor Inc. and associated personal bank accounts from 2003 to 2006.

DEA agents searched the warehouse and offices of Kent Distributor today, as well as storage locations leased by the business. In addition, agents also searched five residences (in Federal Way, Auburn, Renton, Packwood, and Glenoma) suspected of housing marijuana grows operated by clients of Kent Distributor Inc. Agents discovered growing marijuana plants at each of those sites, and seized a total of more than 1800 mature plants, and more than 1000 starter plants.

Agents seized the company’s entire inventory, and are seeking to forfeit it along with five residences in South King County. In addition, agents seized and will seek to forfeit the contents of more than thirty bank accounts controlled by the company and associated individuals.

The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the United states Marshals Service, King County Sheriff’s Office, Seattle Police Department, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Valley Narcotics Enforcement Team (VNET) and detectives from the cities of Kent, Auburn, and Renton.

Like others have said, these shops know who their customers are. If would be odd indeed for someone to ask you what your growing. Most of the owners were guys like us in the first place. But it did happen to me once. The hired help was some part time kid, maybe 16 or so. I told him I was growing money.

I talk to guys at my local shop. I am usually looking for something specific for a specific application and I have to explain to them what I need like a valve, etc. They are friendly enough to help but not too friendly to ask detailed question. I walked out the other day with 3 6 gallon containers of GH. what do they think I am growing?

I would keep the chit chat to a minimum and be casual. I bring my wife and she buys seeds and some other crap for her vegetable garden

a word to the wise

a word to the wise

In a certian part of the country the courts and police have teamed up to allow the drug task forces to watch hydro shops, then follow the customers home, many a search warrant have been based around this flawed logic. I am aware that this is not the case all over the US, but where the rust meets the bible the police will do any thing to "get the bad guy", so it is not the employees you need to worry about it is the van across the street or what ever they hide in you need to worry about. However illegal it seems it is the truth. :cuss: the stores want you to come back, and in some cases will help protect you (sometimes). fear is a powerful tool of control.
