Hydrohut Original Design - Input Needed b4 Checkout

Alright guys -

From my last thread and from researching, it may be smarter for me to get a pre-made tent instead of constructing a room in the rental room. I think for security and ease of take down, plus a Hydrohut stands out a bit less then some 2x4s with panda plastic.

So my design is:
Hydrohut Original (52"x52"x7')
1000watt ballast with Air Cooled Reflector
Vortex 6" 449cfm w/ speed controller
Carbon filter - either can50 or something very similar

I will be starting from seed, but then I will be doing clones. I think i will be using 3gallon grow bags with 1month veg from seed, or 2 week veg from clone.

Now my concern is heat. After reading alot I have seen mixed reviews with the Hydrohut and a 1k watter. The threads I have read were I believe the older Hydrohut that was a 4x4 unit, this new model seems to be a half foot bigger, so maybe it will be better luck.

To help with ducting I will duct the hot clean air of the hut to the attic so its not being recirculated into the room. Other then that, I can have a window slightly opened with the blinds and stuff closed.

Any input? Or maybe reassurance that I wont have this problem with heat. It is gonna be winter soon, but summers do get hot and I would hopefully in the summer be able to but an A/C in but deff not in the winter.

What do you guys think? Planning to order by mid week so let me know.

Thanks!

As long as your air you are intaking is the temperature you want it will only increase a few degrees inside. My intake and exhaust are to the same room and if the doors are shut for a few hours it will heat the room up. I just leave them open and fan in some cool air when needed. Now that winter is coming the heat will be nice, I have not been needing to fan in any outside air lately.

Your system is actually what I grow in. I have the newer Hydro Hut which is 4.5 x 4.5 x 7 with a 1000 watt Hortilux HPS being cooled by a 465 squirell cage fan and fan controller. I also have a 170 cfm inline that is runnin my scrubber in the room. The only difference in the setup you want to do is I have co2 tank running to the tent. Since I dont want the co2 being pulled out of the room, I have one end of the ducting hooked up to an AC vent pulling cold air into the light and the other being blown into the attic. The scrubber is scrubbing the air inside the tent and being blown right back out under the light to help keep it cool.

Those grow bags will work in there if thats what you would like to use. I personally go with a 4x4 ebb and flow tray with a 35 gallon rez and it works great for me. That 4 x 4 HH holds some space and really is mighty strong. It holds both my fans, the light, and my 50 pound scrubber with no problem.

It also holds all 10 of my girls. KKSC, Original Diesel, Pure Kush, Grape Krush, Mindboggle Thai, Mindhog, White Widow, Mango.

Oh yea..my temps normally stay between 79-83 during the day and 71-73 at night. Hope that helped your cause dude. Later.

After researching even more today it really seems like a Digital 600 watt ballast may be a safer choice for me. Alot of people mentioned that I would probably need to run an additional fan (one to scrub and one to pull heat of light), and in the summer probably wouldn't even get the temps down.

I think downgrading to the 600watt digital and running the same fan and filter, would probably allow me to keep the temperatures much more reasonable without sacrificing alot of yield?

What do you guys think about that? It seems like more members are running the 600watt in that tent compared to hte 1000 (over 75% of the posts say they cant control the heat). I am not that advanced yet at growing so maybe its better if i stay with the tried and true method?

Any input? Will I really loose that much yield? Ideally i would like to pull a elbow each harvest.

Don't get a digi ballast- they have a crazy high failure rate.

I've grown in a 4 x 4 hydrohut (the older, smaller one) with a 1000W light and it rocked out! Great setup! Only 1 6" inline fan for ventilation and no heat problems. Summer needed AC on, but other than that- excellent setup.

I'd roll 600w style, rasta, unless you have a separate window AC unit to run in the summers. Hell my 400w in a mini, on house vented AC just BARLEY makes it through the summers.... really.

Digitals kick ass too, get one 100%. Running my 400w digi couple years now... It'l help keep the ambient temps down in the room as well.

a 1k would be nice to have and all, but the 600 digi seems to be a good fit in the hut too. I have my fan control turned pretty far down on my 600 (about the same noise level as the freezer setting next to the hut) and really wouldn't want to have to have it blowing harder than it is because of noise concerns. You prob could run the 1k in there no problem with enough cooling for the light.

I'm not sure about the digital 1k lights. I heard they had problems with reliability but that it was with an older model ballast.(?) It seems there are quit a few people running the 600 though w/o any problems.

I plan on getting a 2nd hut set up in the next couple of weeks with another 600 digi. I'll be running both huts for 200 watts more than a 1k in 1, and will have a back up ballast if one fails (flip flop box) so they can both keep going.

It would be nice to know what the lumens are at the canopy with a 600 digi vs a 1k reg light. If the digis do put out more lumans and a 600 can be that much closer to the canopy than a 1k....
