hydro vs soil, mendo purps x grape ape

N

nveevo

heres a update for everyone at 52 days!!!
the hydro has a little more deeper purple to it witch really surprised me. also the hydro buds look done .. but after checking the trichs just a couple more days left.. probably harvest on friday or thursday
i would have to say the hydro looks better, but the soil looks really good to!!

First off, congratulations on your flowers. They are beautiful.

I do have a question if you will,,,,
When checking trichomes, was there any difference in the ratio of clear/milky/amber in the soil versus hydro or where they right on par with one another?

Thank you for reading, and also for sharing your progress.

I am glad to have found this thread as I picked up the last 2 12packs of these seeds that a certain club in Sacto had. I was curious as to what they where going to look like and I have to say that I am pretty happy with how they look. I am getting ready to take some cuttings and throw them into flower and hopefully I can find a keeper of two. How many pheno's did you see from theres beans. I am seeing 2 types right now. One is looking a bit more indica with nice fat fan leaves and the other is leaning more toward the sativa side of things. They seem like they like they can take a pretty heavy feeding without to much problems. Just curious what you can tell about these beans. Thanks.

Looking wonderful! My guess is that, in a blind taste test, people will not be able to tell the difference. If there is a taste deifference, it's going to be so minute that it will not offset the added yield, vigor, and slightly faster finish time that the hydro offers. I honestly believe that if fed properly, and flushed, that hydro has the most to offer. I've even had wonderful results using chem. ferts (OH NO!!!!!! :lol ), that 10 out of 10 smokers had no complaints at all about. It's all about not overfeeding and proper flushing. That's my .02, and God knows that I don't have nearly as much knowledge, and/or experience as A LOT of folks around here. I freely admit that.

its funny that you asked, i was just talking about that with someone else.. and yes there was a difference, the hydro was pretty much 50/50 with amber trichs, where as the soil had a few ambers here and there, but i prefer less ambers because i like the high better

Nice thread, man. Look forward to the smoke reports.
its comin!

i had the same phenos as you did, both of them a keeper, the more sativa one doesnt get as purple but it is more fruity smelling and the high is outrageous, just takes a couple more weeks to finish,, where as the more indica one is the one i kep and it turns nice and purple, has great smell, and great high,, both have TERRIBLE yields!!!!!!!!!

Was this soil str8 from the bag? I think Comparing it to a more advanced soil mix would be better like Rev's soil mix. Either good thread and good pics

SMOKE REPORT

SMOKE REPORT

so here's my smoke report!! I brought over my vaporizer and blindly tested both.

the first bowl was more of a body high I could really feel it in my face. it had a pretty fruity taste but not real overpowering

the second bowl was a stronger high, I felt it in my head and body but clearly stronger than the first bowl. taste was not as strong in the fruity department but still good

first bowl turned out to be soil, second bowl was the hydro. among further inspection of the two buds side by side - the soil buds were slightly more moist and greasy while the hydro was slightly drier and denser

besides the actual moistness of the bud there was absolutely no way I could tell the difference.

I'm inclined to side with the soil grow. IMO, in these days with big brother always watching your electrical output, & the costs involved with going hydro are more of a liability. I'm not discouraging hydro completely; I mean how much soil are going to cart up in a 12-story apartment building? In a case like that, I think hydro would be the better option. It's just that experience has taught me that money is best spent on lighting, ventilation, as well as odor control. I remember many cases of people losing entire grows by pumps failing, leaks, or clogged hoses. I just like soil better, it's waaay cheaper, & less complicated.

Here is my Mendo Purp. I definitely have the Sat. dom pheno. She's at ~49 days in this pic and will need a couple more weeks, so 10 weeks total, maybe a few days short of that. She definitely needed more veg time but i wanted to get her outside and have been light dep'in it since. Its small, and is a low yielder anyway, but should give some electric nugs. I'll be making a thread in the outdoor section soon once I get better use of my left hand and can type easier, anyone interested can see it finish there, along with some other strains. There seems to be a lack of mendo purp info so wanted to get more up.

Both soil and hydro can grow fantastic Cannabis. Its not the method, its the grower. Great comparison. Well documented.
