is the odd odor kinda like 'garlic meets stinkfoot'? recently been skimming thru a pack of satori, and noticed that present itself rather obnoxiously in one of them - it got taken down a week ago, so it's not even met a jar yet, but it seems to have mellowed into a more tolerable odor as it dries

Wow, yes, you hit the nail on the head. That is a better description than I have been giving it. I've been describing it to my fiancee as something like "sandalwood meets chives, meets stinky foot cheese, meets roasted garlic, meets something else spicy I can't put my finger on, with an underlying hashy/fruitiness." It smells exactly the way I just described. I've read about Satori's "garlic pheno" before, but I never thought this plant smelled just like garlic. But maybe this is what people refer to as the garlic pheno?

The buds have been drying for over 3 days now, and the smell is definitely mellowing out into a lighter, fruitier/hashy smell. It was VERY overwhelming during harvest, though!

Here are a few more pics I took last night:

First, a shot of the sections of my mother cabinet that are used for drying buds:

The top colas and all the best side branch buds:

All the little popcorn fluff is on that wire tray there. Then this is the collection of lower buds and side branches:

Finally, a couple closeups:

Everything is still drying. Can't wait to weigh it all out! :D

Here is the mother cab. It's lit by a 100w metal halide with a 4000k bulb. It was a security light that I took apart and put in the cool tube:

Here you can see the super lemon haze clones that are waiting to go into flowering. The shorter one with the flowers is a rooted cutting of the satori I just harvested, and the tallest one is the SLH that will become a mother plant:

Here are a few pics of the very first bud to be dried and smokable. The rest are still in the drying cab. Plus, this was a staggered harvest (over 3 days) so there will be quite a bit of fluctuation on drying times. Soon enough, they will all be in jars!

...and now here are all the popcorn fluff buds that dried on the wire rack. They are on their way into a mason jar!

Well, the final yield is in... ready for it?

103.7 grams, or 3.7 ounces.

:D

I was hoping for a QP, and I came close enough. Also, I figure I probably smoked at least a 3rd of an ounce (probably more!) off sampler buds, so the truth is, I totally hit my goal!

Pictures are forthcoming. I'll try to get a few glamour shots! :biglaugh:

I've been smoking on this for a little bit now, and I figure I should post a smoke report-ish kind of thing.

The buds have only been curing for a few days now, but I can already see some improving going on. The smell has mellowed out into a smooth, spicy scent, with still a hint of chlorophyll. The buds are certainly getting frostier, too. :)

After I smoke a one-hit bowl, after having my morning coffee, I am immediately blasted into a soaring, slightly-psychedelic kind of headspace. This is literally from one single, good puff. It is very much, but not exactly, like an acid trip (but less intense). I then level out about a half hour or so later on my drive to work. From this point forward I am in a very upbeat, conversational mood, and am able to interact with coworkers and clients. I stay high all the way up to lunch, from this one bowl, and then can feel myself feeling pretty baseline by the time I eat. This is usually about 4 hours from the time I smoked.

So, I then come home a few hours later and have my after-work toke. This time I pack up a good bowl to split between my girl and me. Maybe 3 or 4 good hits each. THIS is strong bud!!! I am immediately sent into a high-velocity, psychedelic, meditative headspace which sometimes is accompanied by brief (but fun!) periods of anxiety and oh-so-slight paranoia. I should also note here that I am a stay-high, and I smoke every day, and have, for the past 18 years. So I have the tolerance you would expect of someone like this.

Where was I? Oh yes. THIS BUD IS STRONG! It starts off with the nice, spiritual-feeling acid trip kind of place, then levels off after a half hour or 45 mintues, into the chatty-cathy, social, fun high that it is. But after smoking too much, it DEFINITELY induces a little nap time. This is actually a blessing for me, because I need to be able to sleep at night, which means I can just smoke a bunch of satori! :D

The smell is still very hard to describe, other than it is now very mellow, mild, and unique. It actually smells like the hash that comes off of it. It tastes just like it smells, which is also very pleasant. It leaves a slight aftertaste, and it just tastes FOREIGN to me, lol. But I definitely like it! My girl always starts playing her bass every time we smoke it, so there must be some truth to the music association the breeder claims on the seed description.

Also, the look of the buds is much better than ever before. They actually DO have bag appeal! (Not that I would ever put them in bags, but you know what I mean). They are very pretty, and the color came through after drying, so there are hues of red, pink, and purple all over the place. I smoked out an old hippie with it, the guy is 59 years old, and has smoked plenty of good bud in his day, and this stuff set him on his ass! He had to lay down on my couch for a little while before he could drive home.

So, I would say that this is one-hit stuff. I think letting it go to the 11th week brough out some power, and a more complex high. I recommend letting your satoris go an extra 6 or 7 days past when you think they are done. This is such good pot!

As far as people not getting good phenos recently, I don't know what's up with all that, but I can tell you that these seeds came to me only a year ago or so. These are recent genetics, not some pre-2007 variety or whatever. But the pheno I picked was one out of only 5 seeds germinated. Of these 5, 3 were females. Of these females, 2 looked exactly the same, and this one was like a lighter, bronze/green color, compared to the other 2 which had a dark, indica green color. That was my only criteria I chose the clone by. I didn't even wait for flowering to choose. And the end result is exactly what the breeder description says.

I am now a Mandala fan for life. I will always keep some of their strains around, if they're always around. This surpasses the white satin and the speed queen I grew a few years back by FAR!!

I'll post a few pictures after the buds have cured for a week or more...

This is so true. It's true for most strains too, but for Satori, it is soooo true.

Keep it up Hush.

If you dont mind, put some pics and reports (grow and smoke) into my satori thread. THanks.

I'm assuming you're talking about the flip-latched ones... my local Family Dollar store carries them. They have them in 3 sizes. I actually prefer the regular Ball mason jars, though.

And yes, Brightskies, I did. Thanks! :D
