i only believe you have the right to kill an animal if you can do it with a bow, knife or bare hands. it just seems incredibly unfair to me to do otherwise. how would you like it if you were some bad ass 6 point buck and some wimpy human blew you away? bullshit right? any dumbass can shoot a gun, it takes skill to hunt with a bow or a knife. there is honor in battle, but gun technology is kinda screwing it up.

lol, I wonder how much sport there is in killing Cows with Air hammers in Slaughter houses>>?????

I hunt out of necessity.... not all of us live on unlimited budgets.....Hunting helps off set alot of grocery $$$$.....

Any dumbass can fire a gun, but it takes someone skilled to hit a buck moving 20 mph in dense trees and brush. Anyone that says there is honor in battle hasn't ever been to war, there's nothing dignified about taking a life. By using a rifle I guarantee the deer does not suffer, not once has a deer ran more than 20 yards before dropping (even that was sheer adrenaline).

Not to mention hunting with a knife is not only illegal (kinda preaching to no one on a pot forum eh?) but by far the most cruel way to die. To even have a chance at getting a deer with a knife you'd have to wait in a tree, drop down onto the bucks back and then try and slit his throat before he either A) Bucks your off and then gores you or B)you stab yourself with all the wild thrashing.

Whats more "honorable" giving the buck a fair fighting chance by actually stalking the prey (granted with a rifle). Or sitting in a tree only to drop out and try and stab a deer once or twice before it runs away and bleeds to death? Real life experience would be good before you make such a stupid statement. Though I'll give you credit, at least you didn't tell me to go broadsword upside some deers noggin.

Sometimes where I'm at they have deer drives. A group of hunters get at one end of the woods and walk through. A few hunters with guns stand at the other side. They shoot the deer that flee. Not much sport. :(

Tred...Tred Barta ? is that you ? lol...Man you guys got me all worked up with all these huntin story's,woo-hoo I'M READY! Here in this big cornfeild they calla state you're legal to use pistol, shotgun or black powder.I use a 44 mag S&W 629 classic 6" bar.with Win.partion gold 250gr.bullets,drops'em in their tracks.I have a bad back so it's a little easer on me than the shotgun or smoke pole, plus it's more of a challenge.I usually take does for the meat and to cut the herds down. It's nothing to see a harem of 20 does when the rut is on and 50-60 (m&f) in the spring time when they herd up together. So,take a doe so the herd won't grow.lol I do have a nice 8 point with a 22" spread hangin on the wall, have no idea what it would score,he's biggin though.....Best of all hunting means I get to spend time with my dad.We live 300 miles apart so when deer season rolls around the world stops for me while I go huntin down home.lol...it keeps me grounded and balanced,it's no wonder it's part of our heritage. Well I guess that's enough outa me I'll see you fellers in the woods unless your wearing camos lol good luck and take care...BC

I used to be involved with several 1000yard clubs and had several nice rifles for that, my favorite is my .338 lapua, as I can consistently put 6-7inch groupings at 750yards+ I always aim for the head, the meat takes too much of a shock with that rifle, sure is nice when they drop the second you hit them, and in my opinion a clean shot and instant lights out is more humane. Add to that the lack of adreneline when they die, personally I can taste the difference in the meat but it's semantics I suppose.

always nice to get away and enjoy some guy time with my hunting buddies.

anyone else do 1000yard shoots?

Damn, taking a deer with a .338 lapua mag? thats major overkill, but I guess if your trying to take a deer at over 750 yards, its a pretty good choice for accuracy and pure speed/power to get to the target. The British use the Accuracy International "Super Magnum" or AWP, its range is up there with a .50 BMG. I've never thought of trying to take a deer from a range like that. Doesn't help for that fact that you can't use rifles to hunt deer here, theres two week long shotgun season, the bow season is the longest, then i think its a one or two week blackpowder.
