me and a few friends will do this occasionally when we think about it. its so far out that i forget that you can smoke this way sometimes. regardless, its not a thing, i only grow for my head so smoking a 3-5 gram bud aint that big a deal.
it will smoke for 20 minutes and still taste delicous smokes like a true cigar

Totally wanted to see pics, but... I'm gonna give this a shot. Only got popcorn buds right now, but I'm chopping probably tonight and there's some good size nugs on there. Sounds like a cool 4/20 party trick - may have to save a main cola and use a gutter nail for this year.
Does this work with smaller, say 3g nugs? I got a plant that's almost ready to smoke with some suitable smaller nugs I'll try. With photos.

Hey Smokin! For a smaller bud use a smaller nail, or pin, or toothpick. It takes a moment to light the end......~mT

never heard doing this with weed - but it's a known way to smoke hash if you don't have any papers or somthing to make a bong of...
put a little piece of hash on the end of a needle - light it up and then blow out the fire on the hash - get the heated hash about a cm from you'r lips and inhale deeply.
works like a charm every time with hash... wouldn't do it with a bud though...

Hey raven dude! Your not putting bud at the end of a pin, although you are correct, that is a great way to smoke hash
Take a bud, poke a nail through the bud, along the stem. Work the bud flat with your fingers for a while. This works best with sticky bud. Pull out the nail and voila! Like I say, it takes a moment to light the end but there it is!
No papers or screens so only harsh if your weed is harsh
