How to select a male?

No early flowering males
So if I was to look for an early flowering (potent) male I would have to go through more males? Damn!

Too bad there's only so little scientific information on this topic. I myself am a micro grower and testing a lot of males would just make it impossible for me.

That's not what im saying. I just don't want anything to early cause it might be linked to autoflowering and that wouldn't be good for my end goal of long veg time and large plants.

If ur looking for a early flowering potent male, by what ive read I assume they are there to be had.

A lot of people in this thread state that early flowering males often inherit the low thc trait, that's what I was out for. But of course what do they know ;)

I don't know, but after reading this thread it seems that theres a case stated for the fact that those traits are inherited separately. The breeder I gravitate towards, tends to think the way u do. So u have experts on both sides of the fence here. Guess its up to u to put it to the test if u see fit. Im staying away from them cause of that potential and autoflowering potential. Good luck on ur project. If ur documenting it let me know so I can follow and see how it does.
thanks

Only Ornamental , Thank you for the reply, I was pretty sure that was the case with pollen, was just wanting to hear how long others flower their dudes.

Actually, using to females and reversing one of them might be the best thing to do if space is an issue, it's way easier to judge their (smoke) quality.

I went into the flower room 5 days in. Was going to take back up cuts to replace dead ones. then had a gomer pile moment. Surprise, surprise, surprise. To my surprise, many males showed their heads, or balls u might say. I was thinking after 10 to 15 days before this happened

So I have to get my male flower room up and running today. But I was wondering since I want to select away from early flowering males, would these be considered early flowering? It seems like the majority of the males have shown, there are probably 5 or so more that im going to wait and make sure. Maybe these 5 would be late flowering.

Or do I need to flower them out and see which ones finish first to really know the early flowering ones? Ive never flowered a male, how do u know when they are finished?

One thing to remember about males, they don't need a lot of light. I've flowered them in windows or under fluorescents.

Some Landraces coming from high mountain humid áreas ( North India / Nepal...) are early flowerers as a phenotypical response to the environment.

This doesn´t mean aren´t worth to keep, this depends of your breeding goals.
If your breeding goal would be a outdoor early flowering hybrid, you should be looking further into this individuals.
As they say in East London:

USE YOUR BREAD

I’ve been flowering a couple of Mango Hz males under floros for the last week or so and have been getting a lot of pollen. I’m putting it in small parchment envelopes and freezing it.

One thing I wanted to mention is that they seem to release the most pollen right after lights come on.

well,to each his own but when breeding for weight, and early season, what i have always done is to do the breeding indoors under the lights it is way easier to control more of the factors that contribute to what you are breeding for,i know this for a fact, when i was a we lad, i was gifted three afghani #1 seeds,it took me a year to acquire them,i planted, got 1 male,1 female, bred them, they were 55 day plants, took seeds from this crop planted them, then took the the fastest female, back bred it to the original male, took, the earliest female, and bred it with the 2nd gen, fastest male, got seeds, took the fastest female with the best buds, back bred it to the original male,i keep breeding the fastest female, with the greatest bud structure, until i had in 12 gen of breeding i took 10 days off of the time and doubled the final weight, and produced exact copies-you could not tell the difference between any of the female off spring, they look like clones except they all come from seed, and were 2 times as strong as the original mother,i would smoke the bud trimmings with true heads, and ask them 2 hrs latter if they wanted to smoke a bud, and they would turn it down,i loved it,but the nazies come in the middle of the night and took my beans from me

that about early males not being potent is crap,i know from experience,it is the best teacher,i have been reading a lot of threads on this forum and another one,i live in the southern usa,and we are under nazi rule here and you have to be cautious because you never know, who is watching maybe one day we will be free and have the rights that our forefathers bled and died for,but until then we have to watch out for the nazies,

hello, betterhaff,in the great outdoors, this is what happens it is the nature intended it to be,the male releases its pollen, the female catches it,that day the hair starts to dry up,because she is nocked up! then in a few weeks here comes the babies, yeah!!
