How to legaly sell used cars

Aside from getting a license and my own lot, what would be the best way for me to legaly sell a few used cars a month? I've heard of people who own lots letting people put a few cars on their lot for a percentage of the profits made off the car, but this would also mean the person would have to be set up as a buyer at the auctions as well. Without knowing someone how else could you find someone to let you do something like that? Is it unacceptable/rude to email or call a small used car dealer and ask?

I would go in person and ask rather than email or call.

Used car lots tend to have fifferent ways they work in different countries i know they are different here in canada than in the states

idk if I'd rely on someone in the business (paying: taxes, insurance, rent or mortgage, and assorted licensing & business fees) to help you beat the system and become his competition on the cheap.

but go ahead and try.......
:dunno:

In some States there is a limit to the number of cars you can sell within a given time. If you exceed those numbers you will likely be required to get a dealership license.

I think in CO, it's 3/year.

You need a lot to get a license in most states. It was like 1500$ for the license with proof of a lot when I did it. Then you have your insurance on your dealer plates.

I was just do it legit, the DMV will catch on fast. Startup cost isn't really to bad. The lot can be many different things, even your driveway in most places.

you can legally sell up to like 7 or 10 I think without a liscence...I used to flip cars all the time.... buy cheap fix up and sell high ..me and the price yeehaw...check your local laws tho...auto trader and such hemmings motor news and the like ...sold my cars quick even had people from 2000 miles away purchase em..once a guy from Norway and he bought it sight unseen just pictures..drove it to LA and put in container and shipped to him in normay...easy peasy....I miss that station wagon 64 new Yorker with dual exhaust and 413...could fit a canoe inside it or on roofrack ...if you don't want to limit your market and get lowballed find a way to get it on the net don't just depend on local sales...I have sold cars in 15 minutes before ,,my 69 stang boss 302 replica lasted 35 minutes after hitting auto trader....I would never have sold that car but it was cursed..upon loading it it slipped off ramps and banged in fender ...I told new owner good luck after explain the curse that' the original owner told me...that car was a money pit but badass pussy getter....FIX OR REPAIR DAILY ==ford.....which is why I worked for them for a while..no lack of work...mopar rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...if your a mechanic and pick the right cars its real profitable....I picked classic cars....mostly

when getting title make them leave blank the name and lower price of sale if possible too...then title goes from them to new buyer and you don't get caught up in between....you were never there lol..I have done 40 cars in a year once..yeehaw..I miss it but don't have room anymore..and my compressor 100 gal walked away in my absence too..fuck you Jason I will find you one of these days !!!!..I am considering acquiring a certain model of vehicles that is known to break timing belts and get sold cheap..do belt and collect my cash..non interference engine with solid engine design valvetrain

Have the sellers sign the titles but not date them & float the cars till you sell them. If you never title it to yourself, you avoid sales tax & plate/reg fees. Don't drive around in a car with 50 signed titles in the trunk, it's asking for problems. ;)

As for how to sell the cars? Make a friend, make a sale & bag appeal matters more than anything else :)

EDIT - If you are asking about selling cars on consignment on another dealer's lot, the odds are good that the dealer already has a used car guy doing just that. The used car guy in turn may have his cars at multiple dealers' lots, too. If you want a carlot with highway frontage, that's a whole lot more than just flipping a few cars a month. Buy them from craigslist/want ad/classified ads & sell them on craigslist/classified/wantads, lol.

Dealers CAN be a good resource for picking up wholesale (under $1k) cars that you can clean up & retail cheap, but usually they have a guy for that, too. You never know what you can get for a few k in your pocket at the end of a busy Saturday afternoon at the AutoPlaza, though. Show up & ask one day ;)

I think you're allowed to sell as many as you like as long as you have a loud sport coat and a cigar . . .

in cali the old owner is supposed to notify dmv within 5 days so changing date will be suspicious and could be problematic... if they sign a notice of transferr and release of liability.......!!!!! so dmv already will know date of sale....yeehaw trout is still in the lake without no snags lol...like I said check local laws...new owner is supposed to report change within 10 but its never been an issue for me or anyone I have dealt with...
