How to keep plants happy in 16 oz party cups

youd have to flower immediately after rooting..your gonna get rootbound. id recommend using 2 liter bottles, they have almost same diameter as those beer cups, if thats why u were choosing the cups in the 1st place. comprendes?

I have about 20 sprite 2 liters cut and ready, I decided to just cull and keep the 6. Put them all in ffof in 1 gallon pots for now until they are ready for 3 gallon then flower or at least the girls that is.

I will keep any male so I can get the pollen to make my f2's and finally see what the phenotype selection of this strain will be.

I am going to clone each female and then once they are dried and cured I will choose which female(s) to toss some pollen on. I think the taste test is the only way to really know if you have the right female.

I kept 3 "weird" leafed ones as well that I might toss in 2 liters if I can cram them in with the 1 gallons. Might fit if I work them in there BUT once I find males and remove them from the box more room will open up. Or if it is a perfect world they are all female and I can test out each phenotype now and then get a male later on.

I've had 24" tall plants in 16oz cups of coco... maybe coco is something for you to think about?
I had to feed (ebb n flow) a few times a day to keep the roots moist but they were great. And when I transplanted them into 2g/8" pots they TOOK OFF!

good luck

i use the party cups till at least pre-flowers show.
sometimes i let them go a little longer.but when the reach about 20" the plants are begging for a transplant..
i just water and feed as i see fit..

I should have kept them all then, maybe I just needed to be more up on the feeding. I will keep them in the smaller pots. I wanted to keep them in them until they showed preflowers as well but got worried.

Either way, I am going to be doing cuts to have as the moms and will keep them in the cups. Allow me to have more moms in this small cabinet.

Never thought of taking them to a foot or more but seeing the pics makes me realize what COULD be possible.

The best way to circumvent the plant from becoming root bound is to make sure not to over water, or water more frequently than actually needed. It's best to let them completely dry out, and let the plant show you that it is thirsty.

This does not just apply to 16oz party cups, but many sizes where your roots don't have much room, and for one reason or another you don't want to transplant.

However, growing in small sizes, they do dry out much quicker than they would in larger containers. So just make sure you don't forget about them! ;)

thank you all for the help.

The strain is

(White Rhino x Ducksfoot) male X Romulan female

this is the f1's

I have a ton of these seeds for later on once I want to stabilize something but this time is more to see might be possible with a small selection at first.

As long as I get 1-3 females then I will be happy and just reveg them. Never had a problem revegging a plant ever and don't know why more don't do it.

I am more clearing out the space for the Super Lemon Haze that should be here by now..... once it makes it, that will be my main strain and focus on getting clones going.

My cross can always wait and I know it will be a decent smoke knowing the lineage.
