How to handle an online chat with a bank

I have worked in multiple customer service roles in the past, online chat, call center in bound and out bound. I'll give you a couple facts

1) Supervisors at all my call centers had NO more power than any other agent at the center. They were there to deal with pissed of people that just didnt want to hear the truth.

2) With the attitude you started in the chat / conversation, I'm surprised that agent even offered to give you half your refunds back. Usually in these settings the agents are given a range of options to offer you, however, she most likely did MAX out her possible refunds by offering you 3. NOW SHE MAY have been able to take em all off, however, I think your attitude just bit you in the ass hard there.

You say fuck being polite. Well you get treated how you treat others. Hasn't your momma ever told you treat people hwo you want to be treated ? If someoen started a conversation with you teh way yuo did, you think you would be inclined to help them out and give em everything you can ? or woudl you just be like " fuck this douchebag"

99% of agents will say " fuck this douchebag"

The whole time you spent trying to trick her supervisor into saying yes to that stupid question..... like having one supervisor admit yes to a stupid trick question is gonna help you??? She probably wasnt totally aware of the legality of the question and just got scared and didnt want to answer wrongly. You treat her like shes the one makign the policy and its her fault ur not gettingn your money. She's just any other employee that has no power in that massive company shes just doing the job she was told.

Its funny the amount of calls i got from people like you with this attitude of self entitlement.

You admit you guys spent too much. You know the rules are that they post LARGE bills first to pay mortgages and car payments blah blah. I don't realy see what the problem is here except that you got a 200 dollar lesson in keeping track of your money.

The rules have changed recently at my bank, they said it was a new law.

Now you have to give them permission to pay a charge that will put you in the negative. If you don't, they can never charge you another overdraft fee.

My banker called my to ask me about it and I told him I do like the overdraft protection but wouldn't be willing to pay more than $3 for an overdraft fee, I asked if he could extend the protection for that price?

Of course he declined.

From what I've heard it only costs the banks 2 or 3 pennies per overdraft. Isn't $3 a reasonable price considering?

edit; As a result of me now not having this protection, I use mostly cash. This means for them I put less money into my account and use my debt card rarely, I guess this is what they wanted. I thought business want to make money, guess I was wrong when it comes to banks.

I wonder why they wouldn't accept my offer, now they will be making $0.

About the op

Did you not know what the OD charges were before you overdrafted?

If you did and you overdrafted, you only have yourself to blame, be mad at yourself.

They know their policies are designed to rape you financially, but they don't care because even when people know about those policies they will continue to be raped instead of changing their habits.

If no one ever overdrafted, they would have to find some other "service" to offer people.

When I used to know I was going to overdraft, I would get as close to my overdraft limit, $300, as possible with one transaction, that way its only a ~10% charge.

Lessons to be learned here makeadadproud:

1. Don't be a fucking ****rag to people at call centres because they're people too and I bet they hate having to deal with angry customers who take out their frustrations on them. These guys have NO power to make decisions. Treat them with respect, and if you had, then maybe you would have yielded a better outcome.

2. Learn to manage your money. The rules are stacked in the banks' favour but they're not that difficult to follow; don't live out of your means.

3. Get overdraft protection or simply use a credit or cheque card...

4. Don't post conversations of you being a ****rag on ICMag which is full of peaceful, loving stoners.

And to everyone else out there: this is the classic example of how NOT to handle an online chat with a bank.

Well, if everyone thinks I'm a douchebag then I must be one. My wife and I went to the bank this morning and politely chatted with the manager and showed them on different forms how the bank kept switching when the charges were posted and we were able to get them to remove the rest of the charges to us.
This might make me an ultra douchebag, but we closed our account then and there and opened another one up at a credit union. The credit union told us that they could, in fact, just decline our card from now on if the funds arent there. Splendid.

Wish I could've handled it better.

You didn't accomplish anything, and have linked your bank account to a marijuana cultivation website (through reproduction of a conversation that they also have a transcript of)...

Yeah, that's how you handle it alright...

last year when my mom died I was so preoccupied with everything involved I forgot to put cash into my bank account & it was too late according to the insurance company doing an automatic withdrawal to stop the process. I told them they were no longer my insurance co. & they still couldn't stop the process of going to my bank.

it was going to be appx $60 in fees from the insurance co. & the bank for my momentary lapse of reason, my bank offered no help either. suddenly it dawned on me, close the bank account.

I walked into my bank and closed my account, fired the insurance company & the bank allowed me to reopen my account under the same numbers a few days later.

couple of signatures later nobody's hands were in my pockets.......

hey makedadproud,,,,
I worked for a "high street" bank for many years,,,,all I would say is that if this situation occurs again then it would be in your interest to be polite and have a sense of humour,,the reality is a bank can mess with you big time and they have a million reasons and justifications for messing with you,,,,
in the years I worked for the bank,,i was quite shocked initially when I saw some of there practises ,,,,
I understand your frustration but you would get a much better response in the future if you adopt a more positive attitude even if you feel angry as hell,,,,,best of luck in the future and try not to make ya bank the "enemy",,,,
peace and regards s2:tiphat:
