Use the initial article to get the name of the person busted, then use the court website, or if the town is so small they don't have all the info on a website, just go to the courthouse and search the public records.

If you are sketch about going to the courthouse, just tell them you are a law student, doing a research paper on drug law sentencing. There is no reason to be sketch though, it's all public record, and all the courthouses I have been to do not even ask what you are looking for, they just send you into a giant ass room full of file drawers, with an index drawer simmilar to what they have at a library with the Dewie decimal system.

Side note - when you know someone was busted, but can't find their records, that means it was sealed, and the only reason that happens is they are working off their issues, by working for the cops. Won't see to much of that with a grow bust though, as the grower is generaly the top of the food chain. You will see a lot of that when guy gets popped with a few pounds, and wants to send his problems upstream to avoid issues himself.

Good advice from donkey...but also you can get the court calendar easily and attend the hearing! Just sitting in the back of a courtroom quietly can yeild a lot of info. All hearings are public, except for those which concern either juveniles or senstitive issues, like a rat making a deal. If they clear the courtroom when your pal's case comes up you can bet theres a rat close by.

Also, a lot of people are too scared to do a little detective work and end up missing the important issues. If you are not in a major city with huge municipal biuldings, you can often sit and watch the parking lots where the cops go...see all the new narc cars, see the rats and the narcs going to their offices, etc.

Where I grew up, Miami , when we were going to do business with people who were unknown to us personally but recommended by a close associate, we would stake out the area where the deal was to happen. We would use up to five cars and 7-8 people to make damned sure that no narcs were hunkered down in the area waiting to pounce. ALL busts happen in similar ways; The cop will park a few bloaks away and sit: they can be seen and detected easily if you are watching for them.

After making the deal and setting the place, we would have people already there watching all cars and people in the area. Any new cars or people parking and sitting would stand out like a sore thunmb and the goods would never reach the location. the deal would be called off and the recommending party taken to the everglades for questioning...Card Sound Road was the last stop for those who could not answer correctly. Locals know what I mean.

In any event, an ounce of prevention is worth 20 years of cure...so go active and investigate those you are closest to..the ones that could hurt you the worst..keep them close and know what happens in their lives. One guy I know has a buddy that got busted...and got out 2 days later on a 10k bond...with no money. Then, he began calling everyone he knew to set up deals..I advised my pal to set up a deal and drive away with ZERO on his and see what happened.

Sure enough, after my buddy left the guys house with a QP of weed, he ditched it in the bottom of an obscure trash dumspter behind a warehouse and drove away. As soon as he got on the 4 lane to head away, he was pulled and searched....the cop went nuts when he found nothing...and got on the radio. My pal overheard the cop saying that he kNEW there was drugs because a ' source' had sold it to him!!

After an hour the cop had to go away and my pal called another buddy to go retrieve the package. Then they knew that the guy was in fact a rat, and could avoid him or whatever.

Do some active work to protect yourself; it might seem drastic or dramatic, but if you were sitting in a prison cell believe me you would be wishing like hell you HAD done so!!

Altho this is the case sometimes, it is usually not the case--
Most of the time when Rats work off a case, theirs is simply Dismissed by the DA...not sealed--
Other reasons for sealing a Case, are either them being a Minor...or if they go to a deferment thing, like Drug Diversion...after completion you can request to have that file sealed--:yeahthats

GREAT advice you and i think a lot a like, my former associates thought i was nuts with all the recon and sitting and waiting....to date i am the only one whoe does not have a drug conviction on my name.

I am just trying to get an idea of the real penaltys involved for a VERY small (1-5 plants) op in the state i currently live in.

I am seeing people getting popped (local news reports) with like 50-70 plant ops and their bond is a measly 10K. should i just post the latest casualty's and see which IC'ER finds out the penalty first?

Go to the NORML website and get the names and numbers of the NORML attorneys for your state. Just call them up and ask about local sentencing practices.

I'm sure they will be helpful and they won't ask for your name or any bullshit like that. They want to be helpful because then you'll call them when you get busted and they'll make the cash!

I talked to the ones in my state and they were very cool & helpful with this type of question.

I would recommend going to watch a trial, they can be pretty interesting. I would go watch a state trial and a federal trial, you will learn a lot. I'm sure if you contacted a norml attorney he could probably steer you in the right direction, a good lawyer will know of some local cases floating around.
