How to enhance the smell aroma of your grow?

Hey folks,

I'm always trying to improve my technique and make my game better. One area I haven't found too much info on is how can I improve or enhance the smell of my crops?

My stuff always smells great once I refined my drying and curing game. But I can remember back to when I was still buying on the street every once in a blue moon I would find stuff that blow your head off with the smell. There was one distinct time my weed was so smelly I had to put it outside in a lockbox because it made my entire house reek and it was like I was carrying a bunch of angry scared skunks around with me.

I've never been able to approach that rip your head off reek before. I've had tons of compliments on the smell of my crops and people say it's got that classic reek but I want to blow peoples' heads off and be memorable like those once in a blue moon bags off the street.

Your thoughts?

number 1 factor is genetics, then id say environment. pop some seeds from some reputable breeders for ur best chance of quality genetics. my stinkiest plants have pretty much always been from seed, obviously some great clone onlys but nothing compares to properly grown seed vigor. sulfur is key element in producing smell and flavor tho i believe

Bat shit worked for me also but was really a mess brewing the tea.
Am in the process of using Humic acid and epsom salts as a cleaner alternative.
First week and the bud room odor has changed and increased dramatically.
Whether or not it competes with bat poop remains to be seen.

I don't know how to increase the smell and currently I don't even want to, it's getting too loud in here and it's making me paranoid.

Seed sprout tea works well. Kind of a pain in the ass and takes several days.
Malted barley tea works just as well without the hassle.
One ounce malted barley puréed in a gallon of water, strain or don't and dump on soil, easy and cheap.
I add a little full power and aloe Vera powder, plants are digging it.
One a week for everything in flower right up to harvest.

It's all in the strain. It either has it or it don't.
The loudest strain I've grown so far was a cheese, and it had that everybody knows you got some in your pocket from like a half a block away power.
Organics, guano, and humics may enhance some, but it really has to be in the genes.

Throwing some cheese in 12/12 very soon. Told my boy "you better get a fresh charcoal filter!". Lol first real skunky strain in this room.

Proper temps and rh will do the trick. 5 days dry and 2 days in a vault will get you what ur after

Genetics play a big roll in smell, but something that gets overlooked is your lighting. You want the low end of the light spectrum 280-380 nanometer because it triggers the plant to produce more aroma. Same with Basil plants. If you have a greenhouse, the material you use for your cover can help get this lighting.

If we talking organic soil here gypsum (calcium sulfate) is another one, the plant needs a source of sulfur if you want to enhance aroma!

I usually do not comment on advice, it will take care of itself.
But just a short comment on ultraviolet.
UVB starts at 320 nm and about one third of one percent will trigger reactions in the plant.
Any wavelengths shorter than 315 nm will unravel DNA, which will destroy the plant.
I repeat, ANY UVB under 315 nm is deadly and has zero benefits for the plant.

UVA is similar to blue to the plant and up to eight percent does no harm. It is the UVB that must be very closely limited and is very destructive.
Sunburn is caused by less than a third of a percent UVB, blasting away at the plants with UVB will cause the same damage.
280 nm through 315 nm is death for the plant.

The advice given was not from experience in growing, perhaps a misunderstanding of graphs was involved, but following the advice will kill marijuana plants, Basil as well, shortwave UVB takes no prisoners.

Good point Phaeton, definitely something I should have researched more into. In the future I will try and back my advice with more solid evidence.

can you give me a breakdown on the finer points on the amounts?

Since everything was growing pretty well already I used one teaspoon of granular Epsom salts to four gallons of nutrient.
After the initial burst of smell my nose must have gotten used to it. The odors are more pronounced but the buds are not making the house stink as I was expecting.
I suspect the post blaming genetics for the majority of aroma was correct.
The addition of magnesium sulfate brought the plants to the odor level programmed in and then it helped no further. I went up to a teaspoon per gallon for a week to see if more was better.
It was not.

The leaves like the magnesium boost, the green is slightly darker, or seems like it. And while not overwhelming the neighborhood the aroma is more pronounced so the Epsom salts are now a standard ingredient in the reservoir.

Bat poop made stronger odors but it was on different strains of marijuana.
