How to deal with the men that read electric meters

I came home today to see a guy from an electric company, he never came to mine but i am now thinking what if?

If they after 12 midday my lights are off so my meter slows down, i'm thinking of just ringing them up to give them a reading, but think that makes me look like kind of strange.

At the moment my electric bill is and always has been paid by DD £60 a month but as this is my 1st grow i'm keen to know how much my 1st bill will be, i was told 1200watts 12 weeks = £120 bill but the whole 1200 12 120 thing just don't sit with me

Can anyone help at all?

Calculate the cost of 1.2k to what you're charged for a kilowatt per hour, then to per hour of usage, then to days in a month. You can add in the supply tax to this too, but all it is a reflection of your usage, not a double of it.

For me, without taxes, it'd cost $25.20 for 1K on 12/12, for 30 days. For 3 months in your situation, for me it'd be $90.72. Unless you have ridiculously high utility rates, I think that 120 pounds for 3 months is way off. I think you're straight, just keep your head straight.

1200w is nothing. You could have gotten a new teakettle that consumes that much. I wouldn't worry in the least.

Fvk yeah i don't think i would turn any heads using what i'm using,i think there are tons of things around the home that use more power or as much, i'm just more wary of the gimps they send to read the meters they might report back if there is a fast moving meter, i'm just thinking too hard and too far ahead i guess but thanks for the shout i will try to find out my KWPH price and work it out so thanks.

geopolitical yes that is very true but there is only so much tea us English can drink or are you on about a monster of a tea kettle? Lol

Sackoweed very true i just started to think about shit when i saw the meter reading guy but after a smoke and a drink and a bit of reflection i'm back to the normal chilled me!

Standaman, you crack me up brother. Slow down and smoke a fattie. Yesterday I had five guys outside my shed trimming the tree that is ten feet from my grow. I have to admit I got alittle nervous but I had nothing to fear. No smell and I am all good. As long as your power bill is paid on time you shouldn't ever have a problem. Even if it is double what you normally pay.

Haha Asil! No it's not how it seems, i just started to think and then think a bit more. Luckily though i saw sense, i'm good now i promise!

Wfw1 Thats all well and good but who actually uses a microwave/kettle or whatever for like 12 hours a day straight?
I'll just say i have a pool and a hot tub oh and a sauna if it ever comes on top lol

It's quite normal to call them up and give the reading, you just say your hours of work mean you're always out during working hours ......

FYI the meter man is just one of the 30 or so ppl who have a statutory right of entry into premises, if he calls at a reasonable hour and you piss him off he has the power to call the police to make you let him in ...... so work with him

If your meter's wizzing round it could be your oven, why should he ask? ..... Meter men are paid from the neck down mate

or just let them knock and leave the card at your door and fill in in and leave it for the guy

or ring up

and 1200w is nothing to worry about

You don't even need a real dog, just a "beware of dog" sign or whatever. Nobody will open the door without you being there.

A growing friend of mine got hit with a heafty elect bill , there was a dog in the garden and when the garden gate got moved the man/woman could get a proper reading without fear of the dog
There was a 2K differance in the estimate and the real reading
My advice is check the utility bill reading against the actual meter reading , keep yourself right

1200 watts x .10 / 1000 x 360 = your cost to grow (change .10 to whatever it cost you per kwh.

thats for flower.. to calculate veg it'd be:

1200 watts x .10 / 1000 x 600 =

so thats 1200 times .10 divided by 1000 times 600 =

relax and enjoy

wrong

1200 watts x 12 (hours)x30 / 1000 x .10

to figure out cost per month its W x H x D / 1000 X K

where w = watts, h = hours, d = days (30) , and k = price per Kw

the 1000 is to change your total watts per month to total Kw per month

umm both formulas = the same amount. 360 is 12 hours a day for 30 days.

my formula: 1200 watts x .10 / 1000 x 360 = $43.2
your formula: 1200 watts x 12 (hours)x30 / 1000 x .10 = $43.2

hmm i totally missed the 30 day connection i typed in 12x 60 for 2months of flower and said 720 man that isnt even close!:laughing: jokes on me on that one, but if someone read that and said oh ok that must be one day or 2 months, and either flip out at the cost now, or their bill being double what they expected

Am i the only one thinking, why the fuck would an electric meter reader complain or enquire about you using too much money, he works for the company you are paying....
