A 67-year-old Murrieta resident has died from injuries sustained when he was attacked by the family’s pit bull nearly two months ago, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s office.
Edward Mitchell died just after 11 p.m. Sunday at his home in the 24000 block of Tuscola Circle, the coroner said in a news release posted Wednesday.
The incident is being investigated by the Murrieta Police Department.
Mitchell and a pit bull named Shadow and two Chihuahuas were on the backyard patio when the attack occurred, animal control investigators said. Mitchell had been disciplining the dog when it turned on him, mauling his throat and groin, police Lt. Dennis Vrooman said.
According to the coroner’s office, Mitchell died from “complications of his injuries after being attacked by family’s pit bull” on Oct. 14. No other information is available.
