How to ask your electrical company if they provide info to leo

Just wondering, I would like to find out if my electrical company provides info on electrical usage to leo without a warrant if they are asked, without me raising suspicions.
Anyone done this before?

What state are you in? Doesn't matter because I can link you stories where cops admit to the paper that they got their info from the electric company without a warrant.

It doesn't make the headlines, it's a boring "who cares" news story generally. But they get pretty specific in their info on local news websites for small towns, etc. From there, I check court records databases by name and county. Within a month of the trial every relevant word is printed online.


That's how you learn about this shit. The more expensive (but less annoying) way is to just ask your local attorney what he's heard. If you do both, you will know, as I do, that your electric company will give your info over without a warrant. This has been confirmed by every local attorney I have ever paid in every place I have lived and grown (7) and has been again reiterated by various news stories/private research.

Bottom line with all this, cops are onto you enough to care about your electric records, you're fucked anyway.

Dude it's not hard to get sufficient evidence to put a pot grower away. Logic would most likely point to two scenarios. 1 They dont and will tell you no , or two they probably would still say no even if they do. It would be bad business practice to tell you they do when most customer service in any industry are trained to deflect questions that could impact their business reputation. I personally would advise against contacting them, Its doubtful you will get them to admit it even if they do and most likely your answer will be no which in my opinion would not be enough for me to trust their word, and that further enforces my opinion that it would be pointless and only negative impacting to you by contacting them.

Well no your not; just means they got a tip off from a snitch and they are sniffing around. Don't forget they need a warrant to raid you house; if your electrical usage is in the normal range then I imagine that is not enough grounds on it's own to get a warrant.

I imagine to actually get a warrant based on electrical usage alone it would have to be well above average usage for a residential property; they would have to be able to rule out that it wasn't just a natural variation due to circumstances; Dont forget if you live by yourself or one other person then your usage would be way below the family of 8 next door who run four computers, an x box, four televisions at once, a drier, lights on all over the house.

Yes, cops need a warrant to enter your house. That's nice. In my town we had a moratorium where the city leaders said to LEO "guys, you must prove to us that marijuana enforcement is your lowest priority. It's medical here, we love it here, we know you have a job to do in enforcing plant counts if you happen upon a garden... but the city position on pot is relax." That's almost literally verbatim from city government officials, ha!

And we actually made them prove it! And they lied of course. Next thing we know a man gets arrested for 50 plants, turns out like 800 man hours was invested in investigating some nerdy Indian computer geek and his sativa garden.

The point of my story is that if you think the cops will wait for a warrant to search your house- or at least sniff around in the yard (literally) with the dog, or at least use illegal technology to zone in your hot spots- sir with all due respect you live in a fantasy world.

Everyone I know knows how it's played, it's not complicated. They get a tip. They act on the tip without any regard to restrictions such as warrants. They do what they have to do to find out if it's worth milking man hours on this guy (this is how many good officers spend their days getting handjobs in asian parlors instead of working...)

If they check ur house and find obvious signs of a garden, they wait for the moment to pounce, doing so by the book so as to stand up in court. Or if they are really dirty they can rob ur ass in the middle of the night and make a quick 50 G's or whatever it is.
