How safe is this site?

TOR + Privoxy should ONLY be used over SSL (https://) because some government entities as well as private groups and persons setup exit nodes and monitor / sniff the data. SSL isn't perfect but it'll keep 99% of people from easily obtaining information.
Can you explain what you mean by SSL, that is, when would you not be using those security measures over SSL(https:)? Does it just mean that every site, search, activity out to the internet should have the https:// at the beginning of your browser?

I also want to ask a question about email. What if you were to email someone, can they get information about you or your location through the email they receive from you? Could they trace it... could they perhaps even have something arranged with the internet provider handling that email to give them IP info and location info if it were at the level of LEO actually being on the other end? I suppose the answer is possibly but at least I'm trying to find out generally what information is available to you or me about someone that sends you an email.. what can you sniff out about them? Thanks.

Softy if you mean the guy with the big grow in his backyard that was called FTC, then yes. His name is blocked and all his posts are gone.

i think physical security of the house (who you tell/ smell etc etc) is more important than something on cyberspace. if somebody knows your a grower, and has access to the right resources, he can easily find out where you are growing though, even if it isn't at your own place. (mobile phone tracking technology and whatever)...so be careful who you tell and where you take technology like mobile phones wth you.

Use TOR + Privoxy to setup a free web based email account, one located outside US or it's allies soil. Russia, Venezuela, Mylasia, Turkey etc.. Language barrier helps a ton too. Such countries are very reluctant to work with US authorities.

IPs can be gathered from emails, view email / message source, look for originating IP.
SSL = secure socket layer, generally 128 bit encryption. HTTPS = Hypertext Transfer Protocol over Secure Socket Layer.

SSL isn't perfect, its very possible to setup man in the middle "attacks". Again, always use TOR over encrypted connections.

Like the saying goes, if there is a will, there is a way. LEO wouldn't put the resources into man in the middle attacks, breaking encryption, unless they were after a high value target. Then generally it's going to be federal agencies that do such in conjuction with people / other agencies who have the know how, resources and skill.

Has everyonoe forgotten about ECHELON and other surveillance schemes / programs / operations?

For you tin foil folks, check out TEMPEST. Upgrade to a gold foil hat and a faraday cage.

HUMINT, human intelligence is the greatest asset to LEO. If only you know, then it is truly a secret.

Is there a way to speed up Tor... its worse than using dial up.

You can select which TOR exit nodes you use... No I'm not going to elaborate on this, use your favorite search engine. Or just read the documentation provided by torproject.org

I had UFOs come seize my plants and abduct me last night... :abduct:

In all seriousness, the assumed / implied anonymity of the internet is false. Unless you take preventive measures to accomplish such.

Also, defrag your drives and do the normal standard maintainance every PC user should do but forget...

Sometimes my drives rattle and I think wtf is it doing? perhaps sorting out the search index. You kn ow it I hope. I turned it off, when you play a game and windows starts to re-index, well....

Solid State Drives FTW
