You can get just about everything you need at Lowes. Except guanos. Now Home Depot carries liquid fish poop now. When you use these places it keeps you out of the hydro shop. Which is a good thing. I just wish the Organic online stores would start using the stealth method of delivery.

Here is a pic of the brand I use from Lowes of peat moss

hey guys i got a question for ya. since i am a hydro grower i don't have much experience's at growing in soil. what i need to know is how much of the amendments do i add. all i got to work with is
MG organic potting soil 8 qt
50 pounds of black cow cow manuer
one bag of bone meal
one bag of blood meal
one bag of lime
one bag of perlite
now how much of each do i add to the potting soil. and will this work. i am transplanting my baby's out of the 6 oz Dixie cups today into bigger containers. i went to the hydro store in the next town yesterday for some worm casting and bat ganao, but to my good luck they was closed cost me 20 bucks in gas and 2 hours of my time to find out they didn't want to open. so f them not doing business with them any more.so this is all i can get in this hick town so i am hoping what i have will do the job.

Hey where were you able to pick up those hearty soil ingridients? (MG organic potting soil, etc.)

do you just go to a local nursery? I do not want to go to osh and buy a bag of that wood-based stuff. I have compost, a lot of it. I just don't know where to purchase the goods other than home depot and osh (sad). I have the potentioal to grow organic this year, just need to buy the neccessities before its too late in spring.

Hey Stevr59,

A mix of peat, perlite, mushroom compost, and dolomite lime will do fine, ProMix is just a better grade of peat with a few added ingredient but no reason you can't make a good mix on your own, vermiculite is never part of my grow mixes, only my cloning mixes and even then.

10% mushroom compost
60% peat
30% perlite

to each gallon of this mix add

2 TBS/gal dolomite lime
1 TBS/gal blood meal
2 TBS/gal bone mean for P (flowering mix only)
1 TBS/gal kelp meal

then only thing you'll have trouble finding maybe is the kelp meal, if you can find liquid seaweed then you can use that instead when you water, otherwise you'll need a source of potassium in your soil orwhen your fertilize them periodically.

If finding good soil components is a problem then you should consider recycling your soil, it's easy to do just dump it in a bin and let it sit for a few weeks then add more goodies to it and your off to the races again.
