How long should I veg?

darkside,

Since it's your first grow, I would suggest you keep the plants close together and go for the colas....JMO....Keep em veggin for around 8 wks or untill the nodes are alternating....The first two weeks of flower will be the stretching period..Keep the vegg ferts going for about the first week or couple of feedings and begin to taper off the vegg ferts and introduce the flower ferts...You should have the plants on full flower ferts by the end of the two weeks...Also, be sure to transplant into their final containers just before you switch to flower.....

Blackmelo,

I think what Jnugg meant was to flush the salt buildup out of the potting mix before going into flower....Then begin fertilizing with vegg ferts for the stretch....Hope this helps...LC

That's what I meant to say, thanks for clarifying that for them LC.

The reason you want to use some Veg ferts the first 1.5-2 weeks of flower is becuase the plants will use up the Nitrogen rapidly while the they are in the stretch stage, therefore you must have plenty of Nitrogen to keep the plant from going through any defficiencies.

After the stretch stage I would flush with a 1/4-1/2 strength flowering fert and then next watering they get full dosage and then switch up to the feed avery other watering schedule.

Remember to fluch/leach your grow medium every 2 weeks to help guard against Toxic Salt buildup.

im using organic ferts right now 12-1-1 bat guano, blending it in the soil, and peruvian sea bird for flower 0-10-1. Also have a blend of the 2 in a tea. Should I can that stuff and use somthing else? thanks.

ewegrow,

When a plant stretches, that means it's still growing....When a plant is growing(stretching) during the first two weeks of flower, it needs the same N supply it did during the vegg phase....The plants will need a small amount of N all during the flower phase....Hope this helps....LC

Points to Ponder..

Points to Ponder..

Shrike made an outstanding point about outgrowing you're light..I Usually veg under 24on until a pre-determined time, topping and pruning all along. Then when I know the time is right..I will change to 18/6 which really induces flowering...but also causes quite abit of stretch. My strain usually starts to pre=flower@6weeks,and is fully done by 8weeks...And the males are Always th first to show..I'm getting pretty good at spotting them way before that..just by their appearance and time spent with the strain.
