how long does pollen stay in a growroom?

Well I had some hermies last grow and that pollinated all my plants will little seeds, not even worth using. Atleast I think it was hermie. I really dont ahve a clue how these got pollinated.....

And right now my plants are 12 days in and looks like seeds are growing in the pods already???

im just really frustrated. 2 grows got seeded. Im just goin toss this out most likely. A few said they were calyxs but this most def. looks like a seed to me..Im just not sure why its there...My guess is old pollen from my last grow which was only like 3 weeks ago at the time of puttin them back in???

damn yeah thats what I figured...but totally forgot till it was too late obviously. I would start over now im worried im just gonna get more seeded bud... that pic is blown up like 20 times so its pretty small ,but its def seeds...bummer

im gonna clean off all the fans lights and vacuum the ground and clean the walls, etc....just bummed I wasted that time for nothing.

Think I might start over but Im goin to clean it like crazy.

If you spray down the area (walls, plants, pots, etc) with H2O, it will render the pollen unviable...therefore stopping any pollination that hasn't occured yet.

An estimation of pollen viability is needed to determine pollen daily shedding pattern and longevity. Both parameters provide valuable information for plant breeding and contribute to the risk assessment of pollen-producing transgenic crops. Pollen viability of ‘Crenshaw’ creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera L.) was estimated through pollen germination on media containing sucrose (1-alpha-D-glucopyranosyl-2-beta-D-fructofranoside, at 0.25, 0.5, 1.0 M), H3BO3 (1.0, 2.0, or 4.0 mM), and CaCl2 (1.0, 2.0, or 4.0 mM). The highest pollen germination percentage was obtained on a medium containing 1.0 M sucrose, 1.0 mM H3BO3, and 2.0 mM CaCl2. Concentrations of all three medium components had significant effects on pollen germination. No two-way or three-way interactions among sucrose, H3BO3, and CaCl2 were observed. A high sucrose concentration of 1.0 M severely inhibited pollen tube growth, causing shorter and thicker pollen tubes. Pollen-tube length of pollen germinated on medium containing 1.0 M sucrose averaged 137 µm, while those germinated on medium containing 0.5 M sucrose averaged 248 µm. The daily shedding pattern of pollen of Crenshaw creeping bentgrass was determined by collecting and germinating pollen from 0800 through 1700 h at 1-h intervals. The results indicated there were two peaks of pollen viability, with the first one occurring at 0900 h and the second peak at 1400 h. The longevity of Crenshaw and ‘Penncross’ pollen was assessed by storing the pollen in a desiccator at 21°C and a relative humidity of 64 to 66%. Our results showed that creeping bentgrass pollen lost viability dramatically within the first 1.5 h of storage and lost viability completely after 3 h of storage.

alright thanks...well too late now though. Ill take lyesol to it and vacuum the ground and clean off fans and lights. Then soak everything with water... I got some really nice seeds and dont wnat to have to chop em down early again.

the thing im not sure about is if it was old pollen from last grow...Which pollenated nearly every pod on all my plants or I left a male in their too long...I had a male but it didnt even have that many balls and was only a week into 12/12....so Im pretty sure its old pollen...bummer though , reall shitty

Don't worry too much Jay, we have to take care with pollen we want to save - clean-dry-refrigerate - to keep it potent, so as long as no more is introduced, this problem should be pretty self limited.

Cheers!

well...I wish I would have cleaned my room out better...

thats the only thing I can think of is old pollen... I guess you live and learn. Unless a male pollinated without me noticing....I dont know, but its weird...

hermies wouldnt produce seeds right away would they..? they start off with balls and nanners and stuff right??? so since its making seed in the pods that means it was pollinated am I right???? So I can liminate that idea of a hermie.....

Hard to say JR - My 2nd harvest I found a few seeds in one branch of bud, didn't see the naner anywhere, and there were no males - it was an all female clone grow. So it must have been a naner that I didn't see, buried.

So hard to say fer sur, but I think a cleanup will take care of it, if I'm wrong send all seeded bud to me and I'll dispose of it in a butane bath :chin: :biglaugh:

Anyway, guess it could be old pollen, but if so why does the pollen go bad so easily when we want to use it  ?

Keepin my fingers xed that you get all the bad powders out of your room....

Cheers and good luck!

It's amazing how much powder pours out of one of those sacks. A fine yellow dust pours like sands through the hour glass. Is freezing pollen bad? Will putting it in storage in the freezer effect potency or fertility? It doesn't freeze, it's amazing, you can take it out of the freezer and pour it. It doesn't harden. Just causes one to wonder if the cold harms it.
