How long can mites live with no plants?

After my friend gifting me mites I have gotten sick of the little basterds and scrapped the grow, and I have started new seeds in a different part of the house .

My qestion is how long do i have to wait to move things back into the room after cleaning? Would two weeks be enough? And are they often found on other things in the room? Like lights of humidiyers?

Any help would be great.

dont take my word as truth but i remember reading on these forums that the mites will find crannies, nooks and cracks in the room like around the baseboards etc, and will go dormant and wait so the best option for you is to treat the room if you wish to still use it.

ive heard of organic mixes like cayenne pepper spray that control the mites i believe. people make their own and there might also be a store bought product or two as well. i know the people i work with use SM-90 on their crops.

Hello, sorry you are having problems with mites, they are a pain. Unfortunately they can live for a very long time in egg or dormant states, and can move quite a distance if there is new food around. I hate to say it, being one who enjoys natural remedies as much as I can, but the way I have completely removed mites from my life is with Avid and the hormone Stirrup M.

Hope this is helpful,

I would say that with no plants I would go to the raid spray. Hit that room with raid and kill everything in the room, do that once or twice and maybe sit off a bomb. That should make the room safe.

Paint the room from top to bottom with white paint. That will get them for sure. Also bleach is good for the room. Bleach all plastic pots and DO NOT REUSE SOIL! Be clean and no visitors for sure.

supafly go to infimrary and search mite eradicator. mite can stay dormant for years, they also ger into plugs, cracks in wood, any nucks and crannies. spary yr whole room twice, put yr lite on for a day and spray it again, u mite b aswell getting 1 plant ready to sacrifice, put it in the room to draw them out then spray it again.

or take the easy option and use a sulphur candle to blitz the whole room.

good luck

Man I hate them little f*ckers. I've tried everything short of plutonium and they still keep coming back. The adults can lie dormant for 3-5 years. The eggs can stay in suspension over 10 yrs :yoinks: The best thing I have found to keep them at bay so far, has been the HotShot no pest strips. I hang one on each plant.

Dude, those pest strips are TOXIC and unsafe for use in enclosed spaces (on the label). There is a product called Floramite that you can safely spray up to 3 weeks out from chop. It is the most effective thing I have ever seen for mites. I know of folks who use it every time as a preventative measure.

No pest strips are generally recommended and labeled for long term use in unoccupied evironments...
Besides spidermites, I kill toxic spiders and scorpions with mine, I rotate one around in my house...under sinks, in closets, give it a week or two and move 'er again. They used to have much more of the active ingredient in them when they first came out some 4 decades ago...Dog and cat flea collars many times contain the active ingredient Dichlorvos, which is also called DDVP.

Trade names include Apavap, Benfos, Cekusan, Cypona, Derriban, Derribante, Devikol, Didivane, Duo-Kill, Duravos, Elastrel, Fly-Bate, Fly-Die, Fly-Fighter, Herkol, Marvex, No-Pest, Prentox, Vaponite, Vapona, Verdican, Verdipor, and Verdisol.
Trade names used outside of the U.S. include Doom, Nogos, and Nuvan.
The sale of No Pest Strips has been banned in some countries for health concern rationale's, Engand for one, I believe.

Best solution for spidermites and other pests?

I hang one on each plant.
toxic overkill, imho, one could probably use two in a room relatively safely for a quicker initial knockdown if so desired. :)

every grower needs to research and find ways to combat mites. They're the #2 concern behind overall safety IMHO Those things will hide and regroup and attack when they have the chance. Use a 5-10% bleach solution and spray everything in the room, use a fogger like a raid bomb or py bomb, use some No Pest Strips, and regular Neem should work out. Kill those ba$tards!!! You can do it man!!! Do it for all the growers out there!!!

I'm WELL aware of how nasty these things are in an enclosed environment. I know to read. :bat: I run a perpetual setup, so I can't just tear down. I did cut the no pest strips down to half of what I originally started out with. Now there's only 4 in there. LOL! There is plenty of ventilation, so I don't worry too much about spending half hour a day in there. After the affected plants come down, I will cut it down to only 2 strips. Neem and einstein oil didn't cut it. I used to use them every 3-4 days, for weeks at a time. The mites still came back. I did this regime 5 times. It was time to get drastic. So I bombed twice with pyrith, and overloaded with no-pests. Them mites have run to the hills! Fuck it. If it works....

Peace

The hormone Stirrup M I mentioned before when used with Avid makes killing all your mites too easy. It sends out the signal to the mites that its feeding time, and they come out to bite the leaves and are paralized by the Avid until they die of starvation. This hormone eliminates the need to spray all parts of the plants and all the other areas the mites may hide, its like the pied piper of mite killing. I hate to sound like im trying to pimp this stuff out, believe me I would use another method if it was as easy as this. try it and see what you think http://rosemania.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/page9.html
here is where you buy in smaller quantities.

I hope this helps all who never want to worry about mites again.
