How late into flowering can you take a cutting and clone it?

You can take one at any time; but it will be much more difficult to re-vert to veg the further along it is. If you had a plant close to harvest it wouldn't be as sucessful as one only a few weeks in. You would need to flush, go to veg nutes and stay under 24/7 for some time. This may not be the ideal way but it sometimes is the only possibility of keeping a special strain.

I've never tried pulling a cut at 30 days, dont see why it cant be done though. The best time to pull cuts really depends on your growstyle. If you are doing a perpetual grow, taking cuts before 12/12 I found to be mandatory. When you are vegging plants out and taking cuts, then vegging the cuts out and taking cuts and so on,you want pistiless "veg" cuts only. You'll find when growing in this style when cuts are taken after 12/12 degradation normally occurs after a couple "generations",vegging cuts get pistilly and many will get non'serrated single and 3 bladed fans, quite fugly to say the least. If your growstyle is a true SOG with little or no veg time you want cuts taken about 2 weeks into 12/12.Cuts that have started to change hormomally due to the 12/12 photoperiod normally will yield more than a cutting taken in veg when put directly into 12/12 like true soggers do.So the bottom line on taking cuts is if you plan on vegging them a few weeks and doing a perpetual grow keeping the pheno around awhile, take your cuts before 12/12.If you p[lan on immediately flowering the cuts then 2 weeks in is your best bet.

Good info bob. Now with that said on sog'ing, should the cloned plants be rooted on a 24h light cycle or 12/12 if you are taking the cuttings 2 weeks in to the 12/12 cycle?

A true sogger would go 12/12 shortly after rooting,my style is perpetual grows so I always take my cuttings before 12/12.I've seen firsthand what CAN happen if you dont.I've never grown sog and have always taken cuts before 12/12,the illustrious though elusive Charles Xavier explained to me the ways of SOG.And he's correct no doubt.Cuts taken 2 weeks in and flowered after rooting will yield more than a "veg" cut the same size, its got a hormonal "boost" over the "veg" clone if you know what I meanEDIT But I want to explain with perpetual grows, that hormonal "boost" is death. When you go back into a veg photoperiod after the hormonal change, real funky things can happen!Like I stated before pistilly vegging plants with non'serrated single fans are not a pretty sight to behold in the vegroom lol

Rooting-proces should take as little time as possible ! taking cuttings from a plant with flowering hormones will take more time to root than cuttings from a plants thats always been on 18/6 (veg) .

When the rooting takes more than 10 days ,your cuttings will be less vital than cuttings that took less than 10 days to root . roots will have little brown spots when the rooting isn't done fast. These rotting spots will be a limiting factor in the plants development .

It is possible to root clones in 4 days , this only has advantages.

taking clones

taking clones

manbearpig, what strain are you growing. some you can clone anytime, some you wont be able to reveg, they just keep flowering . one way to find out if it will clone or not DO IT. have fun

True it may take slightly longer than a good "veg" cut to take root, but it supposedly has that "hormonal jump" that the veg cut doesnt supposedly resulting in an overall better yield.Being that I grow perpetual and not sog,I'd like to hear from people that actually do a true sea of green with little or no vegtime. What Charles said made perfect sense to me,and when I speak of perpetual grows and the cloning process associated with it,I speak from years of experience. When it comes to pulling cuts for a true sog,I can only say what Charles said which makes perfect sense to me not being unfamiliar with the blessed erbal lol.Lets here from some experienced true soggers.

The further your plant is in her flowering period the less rootmass will grow, the cloning will become harder and harder . Revegging takes far too much time to be efficient .

Clones from a mother in veg can be used for sog anyway with just a couple of days in veg , so i don't understand the point here.

I think the illustrious Charles Xavier can explain better than I,apparently so_Or you could look in Jorge's book on taking cuts for a sog.I personally would never take a cut after 12/12,but thats because I take cuts from cuts and grow large clones not sog.

a couple of weeks ago just for the hell of it i took a cut from a 50 day flowering plant and it took 13 days in an aero cloner to show roots. not very efficient imo.

Well taking a cutting from a flowering plant like that isnt very effecient, thats not a matter of opinion lol.Taking a cutting from a plant two weeks into 12/12 is not taking a cutting from a flowering plant, its taking a cutting from a vegging plant going through a hormonal change into floweringEDIT When Charles comes around he'll explain it in better detail,I dont grow that style so dont speak from experience, all my cuts are taken before 12/12.I do understand it though,it confused me at first because I know doing perpetual grows taking cuttings after 12/12 is the worst thing you can do,it will eventually lead to degradation of the pheno

lol. i understand what your sayin there bob and i have always done cuts from 18/6 plants. like you say, takin cuts in 12/12 at 2 weeks makes sense for a sog with very little veg time. i personally don't like to keep mothers goin so i'll take cuts in 18/6 and root those and after a month take cuts from the clones to keep the room goin. it sounds like alotta work but it works for me in my room. the diy aero cloner is sposta make it all even easier on my odl lazy bag-o-bones i call me. lol
the only reason i took the late flowerin cut was i had an empty hole in the cloner and it actually gave me something profound and relative to post about. heheh. well relative anyways. lol

I took mine as pistils were forming and now I have retarded fu%$ing clones!!! Growing quickly and healthy but lots of irregular growth. Thank goodness, I pollenated the mom because I am loving my Mango. In the one pic you can see the one-bladed leaf
:pointlaug . All the other plants are making fun of her.
SO in summary.....TAKE THEM IN VEG...for their sake, if not for yours.

Twas rather profound too lol,I learned the importance of taking good "veg" cuts for a perpetual grow pretty early.Thats pretty fugly Brian but at least you have a little serration to the leaves,I've had they come out single and non-serrated taking cuts after 12/12.Me and you do the same thing Why me,I've kept a pheno going for years either taking cuts from the bottom of individual plants or massacring 1 or 2 whole p[lants for cuts, works fine either way.If you like you cuts to start as little bushes, taking a whole plant or two apart is the way to go.If you want single growtip cuts taking from the bottom is best. When I posted the importance of taking good "veg" cuts on OG,someone responded Mr Cervantes suggested taking cuts two weeks into 12/12.I didnt understand this having the results I've had before, and it wasnt until Charles Xavier's recent explanation on the subject that it became clear.I thought Jorge' was on crack, but apparently he was speaking about a true sog setup. The person/people insisting two weeks was correct obviously were just doing the forum thing and never grew a sog otherwise they would have said "hey.this is for sog".Wouldv'e cleared things up a bit in my head, funny how people read things and insist its true without even understanding different processes and growstyles.I'm grateful for folks like Charles, few and far between!

it wasnt until Charles Xavier's recent explanation on the subject

where can i find that?

By the way " you can also SOG or SCROG from seed ,using no veg time at all. I've done years of clone scrogging , but now i only do it with seedplants .
Over here people almost always SOG because good genetic cuttings are commonly available in the Netherlands.
