bostrom155, how old is that bulb? Doesn't look very bright for 400W, but it could be the pic.

Seems like you all have this pretty much covered but... I run my non-air-cooled 400W HPS lamps 8-10" from the tops with an oscillating fan blowing on the bulb and across the tops. Temps at the canopy are 78-85F.

I hope it's the pic..lol...I just got the system a month ago, I think it's ok, i have 150's too, and there is NO comparison.

On that note, i'm going to look into that 15 light meter, Does anyone use these, or is it a waste with our small ops.

depends on heat and wattage, really... if its too hot for your hand, its too hot for them
