How do you use a ladder on a slope?

hillmizer, why the fuck is your font so big LOL

I honestly don't understand how you use the scaffolding? do you put a plank across that?

You use rebar? The long lengths seem floppy... it would be pretty cheap at $2 or 3 something? per 10' length, but are they straight?

Sorry I ain't too good with this thing. The fnt was tiny so I was trying to make it readable. I'm also pretty medicated lately and my dominant hand Is messed up. Not trying to be obnoxious.

Yes you use planks with scaffolding. Use 2" thick lumber or aluminum planks that are much lighter. They have screw Jack adjusting legs and you can nail the feet to lumber or put wheels on it.

Ya 1/2" rebar and hortanova is my final cage on the outside of my remesh cage. The trellis just gets ziptimed a wrap around the sides and a layer over the top. Works for me.

Good to know russican.

Mizer, I'm sorry about your hand man. That sure is a permanent reminder of what not to do lol. Hope your tendon survives.

I'll have to look more into scaffolding. Do they make them tall and skinny like if I needed 12 ft reach but only 3 ft wide? It sounds like a hassle to adjust the legs every time you move. I found an orchard ladder on CL I think I'll pick up.

How deep do you pound the rebar in? I can't get very far in my clay sometimes.

Use a fence post driver and do the best you can. The clay will def hold it. Shoot for 2 ft. In the ground. If you buy rebar stand one up and make sure I was right about 1/2. I'm pretty sure but could be 5/8".

I'm sure EMT would work as well and I'm not scared of zinc galvanizing one bit. Just don't weld a bunch if it without proper protection ;)

Hey HillMizer, do you think rebar would work in my garden too? You've seen my cages and how big my plants are getting.

Thank you plantingplants for bringing this up. I'll probably do the same thing w CL next week.

It looks like the prices are around the same but it makes a difference when you buy a lot.

I can get 3/4" conduit for $3, 1/2" for $2... and 1/2" rebar for $3.13. 5/8 is a lot more.

I inevitably lose a handful to bending when I run into rocks. I need to run some numbers. Hopefully I can splurge for the 3/4" conduit.

Thanks for your help mizer. Going to pick up an 8 ft orchard ladder today.

carefully, and try not to climb 40 footers lashed to a tree with nobody footing ha

Lol. What would you need a 40 footer tied to a tree for?where the fuck are you taking those bundles of shingles GREEN GET BACK HERE

Personally I'd use scaffold.

Lol at the lift idea. If I was a outdoor grower I'd buy one though

So I bought it but it turns out that it doesn't swivel-- it only goes straight out. My ground isn't perfectly sloped uphill as it slants to the side as well so we'll see tomorrow if it works.

I sure do think it will work.

Planting plants.
It'll work, you can twist it a little but that's all you need/ want. You can level it out. Dig a little spot for whatever leg is too high. Just use the claw on a framing hammer as a little mattock. Jam that 3rd pipe leg right in the ground.

You put the ladder on the same angle as the hill. Even if it's two directions.

Look at the steps where you put your feet for guidance You're aiming for the steps to be level in both directions.
Having the angle closest to correct will help the legs from sliding out or some other disaster.

You got this. Use a buddy is best, it's nice to get a break from pounding.

Be extremely careful not to lose your footing on any ladder. I keeled over backwards off a ladder years ago, and dislocated my wrist in an injury far more painful than I ever imagined possible. Lost full mobility in that wrist for life, and if I were ever foolhardy enough to throw a left punch, I would be the one on the ground writhing in agony.

Be real careful on a ladder. I hear many a fall like mine means curtains and lights out.

Be careful at any heights. I'm a contractor (well not anymore done at 26) because of a accident last year I fell off a 6 foot retaining wall and fucked up my back. A year later I live in daily hell. I used to be able to lift the back end of a civic off the ground (tires a inch off the ground) and now I can't lift more than a can 50 filter without really hurting. I used to only grow mind blowing sativas now the only dope I can even enjoy is OG Kush. It's the only thing that takes away the bac pain, which is a high of its own, not being in pain.

Don't fuck around at heights I've worked 250 feet in the air of scaffold, I've worked 25 feet up on a chicken ladder (look this up its fucking stupid now i look at in and can't believe I used to spend hours on those setups) and the accident that changed my life happened with a chainsaw clearing trees standing on a retaining wall. I wanted to kill myself many times in the last year just to escape it. I just celebrated my one year anniversary of being married in April, it will be one year since my accident at the end of this month.

Just be aware working at heights can be a life changer. Even for guys like me who have been doing construction since they were kids, and as well experienced adults 1 fall can change it all.

Plantingplants that's amazing lol too much ladder talk. I drive my wife nuts talking about cuts, strains and their attributes, to which I am a encyclopedia lol it just makes her head spin by the end I can yip yap for hours...

Wow, thank you for the perspective. I'm sorry it's affected you so much. I seriously don't even want to be up on this ladder. It sketches me out.

I'm actually thinking of just doing some rebar stakes and making a bunch of hoops along the rows and laying trellis on that. Of course rebar plus pvc will get expensive, but it's reusable for a light dep hoophouse....

I'm just worried it won't be enough support. Maybe with pieces that go across and connect some of the hoops...
Also have to secure the pvc to the rebar somehow.

Just be careful. Don't fuck around because I was and have spend tons of time on ladders and shit happen.ls.
As long as you are responsible and don't spend too much time elevated you are ok.

Make sure you are with someone or havecellservice or a radio if you are to ever fall it could save your life, or mean morphin is coming sooner.

Cool though with the Orchard ladder I'm indoor only so I don't need ladders for plants though I know gh outdoor growers do need them
