I live in a major city in the UK.Helicopters are flying over my estate at least once a mounth, about 2am,no visible search lights on.Thet stay for about 1/2 an hour hover in one spot for a couple of minutes, move over a couple of hundred metres and hover again. Now the exhaust smell ican hide but a big hot shed or a big jet of hot air is going to show up on a heat camera like a lighthouse. Now i dont belive the helis are there looking for small grows like mine(about 500w altogether)or big grows for that matter, being in the city and the cost of ronning the chopper ect.But if they see somethin surely they will report it.I know they need warrents ect,but they are old bill,AA they do what they want.A freind of mine a couple of years ago got busted with a grow in his attic(He lives on an estate about a mile from mine, chopper always go strate to his estate after mine). They raided his house on the strenght of an anonamous phone call he had a gun in his house,no f***ing way.Any way any tips, advice, ect,I will be truly thankfull, cheers

Thanks longdivision,Iwas thinking of this but the helis are about regular chasing joyriders during the day not>Not as much risk admited, but also it can get to cold here at night, ill have to warm them to a certain extent at night anyway. But all said this is proberbly the way to go.Cheers

You're worried about helis over 500w?? Heh, you're too concerned. My computer uses more power than your grow does, and its on 24/7.

500w is nothing, relax.

Can you vent it out the furnace exhaust? I was able to tie into mine in a grow I did in an unfriendly city. Just make sure you know what you're doing to avoid venting carbon monoxide into your home!

On the other hand, 500w really isn't too much; now 5,000w and you'd need to worry...

i don't get how the copper choppers can tell the difference between a light and something like small household heater.....i kinda get the feeling this whole heat camera thing is something blown out of all proportion.........That probably use them for the big farms ect...... and word has gotten round and exaggerated and now everybody thinks there going to be the next target......I could be wrong.
Has anybody on here been busted by the coppers using a heat camera???
I kinda get the feeling most ppl get busted by telling the wrong person and word of mouth.

really how much heat do you think your 500 watts is creating..the clothes dryer exhaust on your estate is surely creating more.

i really dont care if they bust me...i have been around long enough and never been busted for anything..so if po po comes for me my money will be rite and its my first offense this hobby is not for everyone.if your 500 watts is making you live in fear,is it really worth it.just my humble opinion.peace magic

I think everyone here has made valid points. 500 watts isn't anything to worry about.

If you did want to do something you could always vent your exhaust into the roof cavity of your home and let the hot air disepate over a larger area before it gos out side. This way it wont be like a jet of hot air coming out of a small hole. It will only be a few degrees rise in tempreture over a large area which wouldn't be noticable.

Another Idea that I came up with is to install a large box similar to a duct muffler somewhere along your exhaust ducting and put some of those small "fogers" that they use in undergroung watering systems for your garden, and spray small amounts of water in there to cool the air as it passes through the box. You could even strectch fly screen wire across the inside of the box in the path of the air so that it retains some of the cool moisture and acts kinda like a radiator. I hope you kinda understand what I'm trying to explain

you could vent through the sewer or lay some 6" pipe underground from your grow to a stump in your yard that has a 6" hole cut in it.

Bad idea blast.

500w of heat is nothing in side a house, but a glowing stump is not normal, y'know?

If you're going to attempt to hide heat, look for it where heat is expected, and normal. Not in a tree stump :D

Venting into your furnace exhaust is good if you know what your doing. On the other hand, not everybody has a furnace exhaust.

Venting to a dryer duct would be a very good idea if your odor control is up to par. If you happen to not have a dryer exhaust for reasons like not having a dryer.... cut some holes and do it anyway. and it's not like anyone knows how you handle your laundry.

Just vent into the attic... no worries unless it's snow season.

Also, think about those bathroom heat lamps that people have that install into their bathroom exhaust, if you don't want to change your setup for whatever reason. Those things get hot as all hell.

Thanks for all the replys chaps, most helpfull. My shed sits in the middle of my garden so no running it to the house,im thinking of ,building a small kinda leen to green house on the side of my shed.If I laeve a small light on in that and vent to it im hoping any one looking through a heat cam will asume the heat is from the light i Accidently leave on every night(maybe day). Thanks again ror all your advise.Cheers

yeah, chill out man, you're just a little paranoid....which is a good thing when youre doin this, but I dont think you should be worryin about this
