I've grown the RN the last 2 summers and it has finished both times. 2012 was a pretty bad summer here and it still finished in time. I think it's a few weeks slower than the typhoon but that could also be spot related. Last summer (2013) my friend harvested his typhoon about the same time as our RN. I didn't even grow the typhoon at all just a few auto spots and then another early cross called Danish Passsion X Royal Dane.
I've never used anything to deter the moose or deer cause I haven't had a problem with em till this year and only one auto spot. Though I will take a piss around the spot now and then.
I've also heard that if you go to a barber and get a sack of hair and spread it around the spot it will keep em away. Off the hook says to put a clock that ticks under a tin can and it will keep the critters away.
