How do I setup 4k in an upstairs bedroom properly without doing damage?

So I have an upstairs bedroom with a downstairs dryer. I want to setup 4k upstairs but have no prior electrical experience. A friend said there's a sentinel brand box that plugs into a 30 amp dryer socket but I'm not sure how to run a bunch of wires upstairs and/or set that up without looking sketchy. The dryer area is visible pretty much upon entering the house so I don't want a gnarly box there but I can find a way to camouflage it (I figure I will have to, huh?) And my girlfriend will be pissed we can't use the dryer.. or can we still? lol...:dueling: no plants in my room either :noway:

I don't want to do anything that can't be easily patched up/redone when moving out, and I can't run cords all over the house... anyone got the answer for me?

Find one of your buddies the does electrical work to get it done for ya. I am sure that you have already thought of that! The other thing you might think about doing is going down to your local hydro shop and asking if they might know someone who does electrical work. As long as you use the right language I am sure that they will know someone that will be able to help you out.
Good luck

If you have any space on your circuit panel you could add a 30 amp (or higher if you go 120V) and run the wiring yourself. It' not that tough, and you should be able to do it safely after reading a DIY home wiring book.

If you don't know anything about electricity, the other posters are right in that you should not try this by yourself.

Is the dryer outlet directly below the room you want to grow in? If so, just get some 10AWG romex and snake it up through the wall, no one will see it. If it's not directly below the room, it's still doable, just trickier. The gnarly box will be in your grow-room. I taught myself how to do electrical work in an afternoon. Just go to the library and get a bunch of books on DIY home electrical work, it's really easy. Also, you can still use your dryer, just not when your lights are on. And another tip for upstairs bedrooms -- cover the floor with pond liner to prevent water damage.

Check your main panel box. Look for any unused slots. Call an electrician to add a 30 amp circuit breaker. Wire the breaker with the 8 gauge wire (depending on distance) to the timer box. Remember to turn off the master switch and the circuit breaker. Or have an electrician add another dryer plug upstairs.
