How do I run 2000watts in One room Without Using an Electrician???

Just a remark about what Pharma said.I've run 3 1K HPS on a 240V circuit using 120V receptacles and the original cordcaps from the fixture for many years now its perfectly safe.Just don't plug a 120V appliance into it,that is the one and only drawbackEDIT I see you are only running 2 1K's so all you'd need is a 120V duplex receptacle in a single gang box.I'run three so I had to use a 4 sq. metal box and two duplex receptacles

Since it's a rental...aren't you afraid there is going to be some sort of inspection at one point?
Could be the owner re-financing the house at some point needing an Appraiser to come in or maybe a repair to be done or how about your electricity bill being far higher than the ones caused by previous renters and/or in the neighborhood.

2kw lights plus fans, AC, pumps etc. will build up to 3kw+/hr with the lights on.
In 18 hours during vegging this will accumulate to ~$6/day @ $.11 per kw/hr

$6/day (I neglected everything else continuing to run while the lights are off) doesn't sound a lot? Might be enough to flag your account accumulating to @ least $180 on top of normal usage!

This is probably what I'd recommend he end up doing. The thing is, right now we've only made it up to the timer. The OP wants to be kind of discreet about what he has an electrician do, but, at the same time, wants the whole thing plug n play.

If he doesn't want to do any wiring himself, then his best bet would be to have a sub-panel with 2- 15/20 amp 120v receptacles and one 30 amp 240v circuit/receptacle. Then he can have a timer board made up with a 30 amp power cord running to a 240v Intermatic with a duplex receptacle to plug his lights into. He'd also have room to add a couple more lights to the timer if he wanted to expand. If two lights is all he's ever going to want, do all the 240v stuff @ 20 amps.

But, in the end, he's going to end up with 120v receptacles using 240v, just like you said.

If you switch your ballasts from 120v to 240v your electrical consumption decreases 50%,i had two 1000 hps n was using 10 amps each, now with 240 v only have to use 4.5amps per lamp,screw the electrician not needed, new digital ballasts rule,120/240/hps/mh all in one.well worth to make the investment.
Am no electrician but can tell you this system is safer not as hot n' will save u a shit lot of loot with power bills.

Good luck with your project, it won't be hard once you got it all lined up and figured out.
And as far as the electrical installation maybe you can fly in a friend who knows what he's doing and you trust. Tickets are cheap and may be well worth it. Or you could ask for a trustworthy electrician @ your new Hydro shop.
