How Do I Get My Buds Frosty?

Man, its all about genetics. I grew out 1 lone WW from Nirvana and got super lucky. The plant was an awesome, sativa phenotype. I gave very little fertilizers and got really nice buds with tons of trichomes everywhere. It all comes down to the genes.

Ya,Who are you to critisize.Lets here your IDEAs.We're all ears. It's a provin fact that the buds become more frostier with cooler night temps.

i didnt even do two minute's of searching and i find this at wikipedia. before u get all butthurt and question his "IDEAS" try researching.

THC has very high UV-B absorption properties, thus cannabis evolution may have favored the evolution of genotypes that produced these THC laden capitate-stalked trichomes as a built in 'sun-screen' for protection against UV-B light rays.

built in sun screen eh, so more UV would mean more need for more natural sun screen dont ya think?

also the higher elevation you go the more uv light there will be.

i bet theres at least a dozen more pages on uv light and trichomes if you looked.

PS: i know lower temps produce a slight bit more trichs but it really plays more of a role in tighter buds.

:joint:

edit: for the thread starter if you want frostier buds, give them more of a complete feeding in flowering, and dont be afraid to give em some more juice.

also, more trichomes doesnt mean more potent. its all what they hold inside and how much is what makes them special.

as its been said.... genetics

there is no way possible to get more trichomes than the plant is geneticly
predispositioned to produce

either your not growing your strain to it's potential or mybe you need new genetics

by the way , how is the weed?..............therein lies your answer

A lot of people have mentioned the amount of trichromes being produced as not really being that important,in all my experience I've found the more trichromes the stronger the pot,I would say usually but I think thats been in all my grows and I've tried over a dozen high dollar strains.I'm sure the contents are different in the trichromes of different strains but I wouldnt count out the sheer numbert of those babies as being unimportant either

The temp thing is a big factor, I have been having heat issues in my new grow space due to hot summer weather and the lack of triches compared to my last grow is staggering, however, a Skunk #1 (Sam The Skunkman) a little over two weeks into 12/12 has a nice frosting of triches already. I got the loupe out and checked the plants lacking triches, they have malformed triches with most of them lacking round heads, they are just stalks. I'm expecting these plants to not be very potent, more due to the malformed triches than the number of triches. Heat is a big factor, but genetics are the main factor. I've grown stivas that had few visible triches but blew my mind, the quality of triches is important, not just their quantity.

Its all about genetics, quality and quantity of light, and growing environment.....nutrition plays a big role in the overall plant health as well. I grew in Hawaii, and I have to say, the UV being extreme certainly didn't hurt matters regarding resin content, or quality of resin, and it got pretty warm there too.

Quality of resin content is even more important than quantity, the overall thc makeup of the resin gland goes a long way towards the high you have, and yes, more of it is even better....I've seen old school sats that didn't have nearly as much resin as some other strains, yet they were potent as hell...Why? Because of the quality of the resin it contained....As far as cold temps making a plant more resinous, never heard or saw any documentation on this subject....If it were so, wouldn't ruderalis be pretty damn potent? It naturally occurs in cold areas, no? Just some food for thought :joint:
