It's probably hard to believe considering most of the Earth is covered in water, but currently we have about 780 million people that don't have access to clean, healthy, disease free water. About 3.5 million people die every year from water related illnesses.

Many different charitable organizations are working on the problem (which I donate to regularly), but the population of the Earth is growing exponentially, and by 2050 we will add several billion people. We will need to vastly improve our ability to feed and water ourselves.

actually one of my goals this year is to save enough for a DEEP well(s) its pretty high up on the list even though ground water tables are also being drained .... Theres an interesting doc on Netflix called "Last Call at the oasis" Las Vegas and most of the lower west is in deep doo doo my neck of the woods is in deep doo doo Colorado river is shrinking lake mead Is in trouble we're in trouble.

i read somewhere that per person, afganistan has more water than the uk,and that place is in a dessert too! not forgetting to mention that everytime we take a drink of sweet water,it has passed through on average 18 other peoples bodies .yuck

California officials forecast ‘zero’ water deliveries

State officials announced Friday that 29 water agencies serving 25 million people across California can expect “zero” water deliveries from the State Water Project this summer because of the worsening drought.

Although that delivery projection could change, it is the first time a “zero allocation” forecast has been made in the 54-year history of the State Water Project, which is operated by the California Department of Water Resources and typically delivers Sierra snowmelt to cities and farms throughout the state.

wash your car, water the lawn, hose down the deck, set up sprinklers ~ pools & water slides for the kids, power wash the cabin, raise a veggie garden & keep it well watered, go fishing & boating on ALL the lakes, water levels @ 100%. go fishing again

Singapore is doing it with Raw sewage none of their water flows to the ocean or so they say ....call it Newater as in New water. Crazy when you think about I played baseball in high school on a field with reclaimed water that smelled like human ass not manure or ferts so I don't know. Whats going to happen is we'll have to switch to a system like Singapore and it wont be a hit but may need to happen.

The most staggering information regarding a water shortage....the last time we had one, 1977, Gov. Brown was our Govenator, at that time.

I was east bound on I 10 by the state line ,I go over a viaduct ,and I look south ,I think the rive was called the river of Americas,its been a while ,so I look south and see this channel cut very well made and could be seen by satellite photo ,if it aint blocked but it was blocked of on a curve ,but if you blew the levee ,it would run south to mexico ,about 100 ft ,and devert all wate to them ,I seen this with my own eyes ,....sobody has a plan ,and it don't include ca

the water in my new area flows by my crappy crib ..its way low and direct from mountains to the valley.. its depressing .. been some rain today..need about a whole month of rain to really make any difference..1 1\2 years more here for me max.maybe a lot less

Doesn't surprise me a bit! California has the best educational system with grants to the 'illegals'
Guess i get more pessimistic about Calif., the longer I live. While watching things 'come around, again.'

The news said San Francisco is 12" of rain below what is needed. I bet those 12inches were used to fight that big fire up there..
Then the news reported that S.F. had 1" of rain, with the current storm.

It has been raining all day where I live. Sure hope it stops for the HTCC this week-end. jpt

I am not convinced this water shortage is as real as it is political. In the same breath with the shortage, marijuana indoor grows are the culprit. The news states 5 gallons of water per indoor plant each day.

That sounds way off. I had 25 plants under a 1000 watt light for my last grow. They went through 12 or 13 gallons at most every 3 days. You'd have to grow a real monster plant to need 5 gallons a day. Most people go through more water taking a shower than they'd use for an indoor grow.

My outdoor plants (San Pedro cactus) don't need anywhere near that much water. They'd be happy for a year or two with no water at all. They just soak up whatever they can get and save it for times of drought.

IMHO, we should be looking at Australia for an example of how to adjust to the possibility of a whole, new ballgame. Drought restrictions may become the norm. California may not continue to be the breadbasket for the country and the rest of the world that it has been. I don't mean to be a Chicken Little, but having a significant other who works as a Dept of Water Resources consultant, this has been a longstanding household topic. I think the majority of people have their heads in the sand and it's high time to pull them out.
All the ratepayers in our area today got robocalls from the local water dist saying we're at "Stage 2" water restrictions meaning a voluntary 30% reduction in use WITH the possibility of drought "surcharges" Which are BS considering WE'RE producers of water up here. Which gets shipped to Socal to water LA's lawns and keep Disneyland running, lol. I kid, but most don't realize it's really cost IN-effective to ship water ANYWHERE. But I digress lol.
