Hot pots on the patio

How sensitive is cannabis to hot roots?

I have plants in 18L pots on a cement patio elevated off the ground and I spray painted the pots lighter than the natural black they came in but I noticed they are still pretty hot on a hot day in full sun.

I did some research in the non cannabis world and apparently it's case by case depending on the type of plant if it's an issue or not.

I've seen pictures online many times of people growing cannabis in much hotter climates than mine in pots on cement patios so I assumed it wasn't an issue but want to be sure as I've seen the odd yellow lower leaf here and there.

Anything to watch out for, any tips, any solid info on how much heat the roots can tolerate in cannabis, any info appreciated!

I'm sure it isn't ideal but it wont kill them either. It definitely makes you have to water more and is probably a little stressful to them. I've seen some one who bought a hay bale and took the hay and wrapped the pot with the hay arranged vertically in a thick layer and wrapped it all together snug with bailing wire. I bet that keeps his pots much cooler.

cardboard

cardboard

Take some cardboard the same height as your pots, and roll it up. Then put it around your containers.

If you have a male or a weak plant to experiment on, try this. At 4:00 in the afternoon take a pot that has been in the sun all day. Pull the plant out with the soil and toss it on the ground. See how much the roots are steaming. That will tell you how much you are cooking them.

It's way more than you imagine. I did that about ten years ago and I always use cardboard now. Most of the plants would still be steaming half an hour after tossing them on the ground.

raise the pots up...from the cement... use blocks, wood, bucket, wood pallets....
sum-thing vented to allow better air circulation....UNDER the pots....
Also during the heat of the day.... indirect sunlight is better than to fry them in direct sun....
maybe even try giving them a fan during the day to create better air movement on the patio for the plants....

Definitely get the pots off the ground. Wrap them in panda film white side out so it will reflect sunlight/heat instead of absorbing it/attracting it. You can also mulch your plants, it will help with water retention while helping keep the soil underneath cool.
