hot nights / ROT / temps / h2o2 / "potato smell"

so i recently flipped my crop.
and im going to try to use the cool night air to try and cool the grow, so im 'growing' at night (11pm-11am)
day 3 i check my log on the thermometer and find my room is running in the 80's at night (88 to be exact) i added some fans to assist the small a/c unit i have and now its running in the 75 range. (68-72 near the res and 74-76 on the canopy)

AHHHHH the potato smell.... a py...somthing fungis/bacteria?

so...i figure i wont have any plants to have bennies for if the situation continues, i promptly pour in a 1/2 liter of h2o2 (hydrogen peroxide) into my 35gal res.
yea i just blasted my bennies... but the fungis is dead to.

now ive GOT to change my res and nutes, re-innoculate....

im wondering if the low 70's is ok ambiant for the res.

i know i fuxed it up w/88 degree blasts at night... the good news is my plants day is running at 84-86 ...right where i want it.

if i got a res-chiller would that help prevent the pythium>?

(few days b4 the problem)

I would add hydrogaurd & hygrozyme to your rez at like 8-10ml per gal. It will help a great deal. It has helped me anyway. If you have the cash to spare for a rez chiller go with that instead though. 68F in rez in optimum...

ok so i just googled hydroguard... guess its made by botanicare..
looks good. im gona get it tommorow morning.
does this kill the bennies like peroxide?

im using sensizyme, think that will work?

im gona to have to see the logs on my thermo to find if i can achieve 68 without a chiller... 10 degree drop was a great start... i never moniterd the water temp ill have to start.

thanks for the :1help:

Hey digital... here's what I do and in summer time my rez temp sits around 78-80F...way over the recommended temp but still end up with white roots..

Get some panty hose and cut off the feet. Put a handful of vermiculite in there and tie it off - that's the new home for your beneficials...drop it in your rez and for the first treatment use Hydroguard at 15m/gal - I no longer bother with hygrozyme but you can if you believe it will help.

Next time you swap the rez just add 5ml/gal hydroguard, the vermiculite should have enough of the beneficials to quickly build the colony back up.

You should end up with plenty of bennies and no need for H2O2...

Now I am wondering though, you have stated a few times that you HAD bennies, yet you also had an outbreak of fungus/algae/who knows what... this means you may have another problem not yet identified, such as light leaks, root rot, etc.. again, my temps will sometimes hang at 80F for the entire grow, and with the above doses I never have an issue....

HOLYSHIT!!!!
PANTYHOSE!!!
what an idea!!!
yea the H2O2 kills all the bennie...
didnt ya know?
thats why u should never use it, idealy u want to use only beneficials and prevent the attacks..
i was worried more about keeping res temps down..
but that idea is great, i was wondering how (besides the RW medium) to have bigger benne colonies.
do u think a bunch of big ass lava rocks would do the same thing?

still gona get the hydroguard in the morning..
man it smells like somthing in there....
after i emptied 1/2 the container of h2o2 im suprised thers anything alive..
the enzymes break down the rot....
i thank you for the poantyhose idea. im gona see if i can get a samll bag anyway (usualy only see bags of vermiculite bigger then i am)

flushed my system with RO + hydroguard + sensizyme

no more probs.

some actualy started to wilt. (big suprise huh)
after a day they had perked back up.
