Homegrown Cannabis Co - Bruce Banner Fast Version

Biosystem

Well-known member
Howdy, y'all.

I'm Biosystem. Welcome to my grow log.

In this thread we'll be looking at a strain called Bruce Banner Fast Version bred by Homegrown Cannabis Co. It's a sativa-dom hybrid that is bred to flower in 6-8 weeks since it's crossbred with cannabis ruderalis in an effort to reduce the flowering time without yielding a plant that is an autoflower. It's advertised as being able to reach up to 30% THC content.

There's scant little information online about folks who have grown out this company's strains compared to other seed companies, and there's even less available on ICMAG, so I'm very excited to showcase some of their genetic offerings for everyone. We'll see how things go in this grow as I update the progress week by week with the intention of posting every Saturday.

I'm beginning this grow log pretty much on Day 1, so this thread will be a slow boil at first, but that will just make it all the better once it's time to report the all the stats and details at the end. We'll have information and photos about everything from start to finish. Without further adieu I'll be posting this initial post and then a regular "Saturday Update Post" to keep the photos and details clearly identified.

As always I appreciate any and all input from you lovely gardeners.

WEEK 1 OF GERMINATION

Let us begin. I have 12 femenized Bruce Banner Fast Version seeds from Homegrown Cannabis co that I've begun germinating. As of this post they have been in moist paper towels in a dark warm area for about 24 hours. I will check on them tonight when I arrive home and as they begin to pop tails, I will plant them into solo cups filled with my custom soil mix consisting of peat moss, compost/manure, pumice, kelp meal, crustacean meal, gypsum, basalt, neem meal and lime.

They will be placed underneath a dual bulb T5HO fluorescent ballast at roughly 70-75F and 50-55% humidity with ventilation until I can acquire better lighting for them which should be before their light requirements necessitate a boost in energy.

Below are photos of the germinating tray as well as close ups of each seed. I mostly took photos of the seeds simply because once I've found the plant I decide is my keeper, I'd like to be able to look back and appreciate what its humble beginning looked like. From tiny acorns do mighty oaks grow.

WEEK 1 OF GERMINATION

The other photos of the seeds.

I really really wish that
A) ICMAG didn't limit posts to 10 photos
B) ICMAG would upload photos in the order you select them from your files

Oh well.

Edit: seeds got mixed up so I re-uploaded the photos later in germination with clear numbering. Photos taken on 10.10.22 after 3 days of germination.

WEEK 1 OF VEG

Hello, all!

This has been an exciting week! It looks like 10/12 plants have popped the surface thus far, and I'm still holding out hope that the last two will join the fun. This is going to be a short post this week as there isn't all that much to say.

It's worth noting that these seedlings are on a 24hr light cycle underneath a T5HO fluorescent ballast (108W I believe), and they're starting their growth inside of a terrarium turned on its side and partially covered to preserve humidity. I've lined them up for photos based on their seed number so I can see how everyone's doing. Perhaps seedling vigor is an indicator of overall plant vigor, or maybe it is a deceptive measure since there are so many factors at play. We'll see as time goes on.

Thanks for looking and feel free to let me know what you think.

WEEK 2 OF VEG

Hello!

I apologize for the brevity of this week's post, but I was in a rush to get out of the house today, and I didn't have much time to line the seedlings up for a photo - space is also getting limited due to other non-cannabis plants crowding the tent. The photos are a little less than exciting - no bud pron yet.

Quick updates - 11/12 seeds have popped the surface, and they're doing well - much better than my Silver Lotus seeds were doing at this stage. Apparently though, y'all, I ain't capable of learnin'. I flared 'em with my LED light when I got my new flowering room light and replaced the T5HO ballast in the veg room. Fortunately nothing got burned but they definitely bent down and got low in response to the sudden light exposure. They'll be okay. Live and learn. Or . . . try to learn.

I have to get the temperature under control. It's getting too cold in there and I don't want to lose growth. It's getting down to 61F in there at night now. That, and moving some plants from outdoors brought some flies. The seedlings have been dosed with Steinernema feltiae so I am hoping they can keep resilient to them, but yeesh.

Anyway, that's all for now. Please feel free to let me know what you think or if you have any ideas for the problems these lil gals are facing.

PS - those poor yellow souls in background are Silver Lotus clones I took that had a rough go of it. Most of 'em will make it, but even those look like they've seen the war.

WEEK 3 OF VEG

Hello! Happy Halloween to you all!

Since these little gals are so young still, there isn't much to say. Temps are ranging from 68-74F and humidity is ranging about 64-76% so far. They all seem to be doing quite well. They are already smelling like good cannabis when you gently rub a leaf for a sniff test though not strongly. I'm a little confused as to why their leaf structure is the way it is. They have such broad leaves with very little serration - like tomato seedlings. I'm not sure if it's environmental due to cold or light exposure or if it's just how the strain is. This is advertised as a Sativa dom strain, but these leaves look far more like an indica dom. They are still young though and temps have been unusual, so we'll see.

I'm excited to find out how they do and to determine which of these beauties is going to be my prized keeper as I intend to keep the one that has the best potency/yield combination that finishes flower in 6 or less weeks. They're going to be flowered in a 5x5x2 raised bed, and so far I plan to position them in rows along the edges being tied down to poles so that they sprawl inward with only one main stem - like vines. My thinking is that this way I can stack them closer together on the edges and have all main cola buds raising up off of them at one height. Their roots will just have to branch inward towards the soil found in the raised bed. Perhaps this way can be improved, but I think it will be great and make for a nice crop/growing experience.

Thanks for looking and feel free to let me know what you think.

WEEK 4 OF VEG

Howdy, y'all!

I missed my Saturday post - family emergency took priority. Things are going okay at the moment.

The babies got their first dose of fertilizer this week, and more will come. Temperatures, light and humidity all good. Things got way too crowded in the tent with some tomato plants I am pheno hunting through so they got neglected and dried out a little in their cups. I remedied that today by culling the 'maters and repotting the ladies into some 1 gallons. They're gonna really take off now. I'll swing back around and post a pic of the whole grow tent now that it isn't a jungle. . . I should have taken a before pic. Damn. It was ludicrous. Everything was covered with tomato branches. It was insane.

Anyway, so far so good! These plants are already quite fragrant - much more so than my Silver Lotus was at this stage which I am taking as an encouraging sign.

Thanks for lookin'. More updates to come.

Here's the follow-up photo of the whole tent now that it's been better organized.
I kept the 9 strongest 'maters, and prunes 'em down hard. I really don't care about getting much off of them since I just wanted to find the one that had pitch black tomatoes to keep for next spring.

There are also Silver lotus clones and some herb clones I took, but the BBFV plants are all in the middle under the light. I need to get some 3 gallon pots for them and a cloner so I can have clones ready for the next flowering. So much to do. . .

WEEK 5 OF VEG

Hey, guys!
Things are going, well, just okay for now. They got repotted and everything, and they're growth has increased as a result. However some of their leaves look really upset - yellow and some brown patches. I have fertilized them recently so it's somewhat doubtful that it might be nitrogen deficiency. I'm just holding on and seeing what happens. I don't want to burn them, but I might fertilize them strongly soon and see what happens. I'd rather need to flush than watch them suffer.

WEEK 6 OF VEG

As discussed in my Silver Lotus thread (since this is posted at the same time as the most recent discussion there) there have been problems with the nutrients, but the pH, temps and humidity are all good here.

There are problems with fungus gnats, but I'm working to address that, and I'm pretty sure these plants are simply starved for nitrogen, but I am baffled by the brown blotches on the leaves. Any pointers on these plants are greatly appreciated. They seem to be growing well enough, but the color is off and their vegetative structure points towards struggle.

I am going to give them some nitrogen and hope they bounce back.

WEEK 7 OF VEG

So this week is much better. Temp, humidity and light are all okay, and I dosed them hard with nitrogen from my aquariums - they LOVED IT. They're getting green again and are starting to grow quickly. I need to stop being so afraid to nitrogen burn my plants. It's astonishing how much they need to grow. They are so hungry.

WEEK 8 OF VEG

This is a big week! The other girls are chopped down so these are going to the flowering room. HOWEVER. I will be vegging them for longer to put some size on them and so that they can recover after having clones taken today.

They've been moved from 25/7 cycle to 18/6 under a much stronger light after being given 3 gallon pots up from 1 gallons.

WEEK 9 OF VEG

Howdy, y'all! It's been a GREAT week for these gals! They're surging with growth, and they're reacting strongly to everything I've been doing. The first photo I'm going to post is before pruning today. The others are after I pruned the sucker branches on the lower parts and bent the branches over. I did the bending with my last plants and they handled it well. It kept them low for a while which is good because I don't want to keep the lights far above lower nodes. I'm trying to learn from my mistakes from last grow, so I'm going to keep on top of the pruning and training before they go into flower.

They look really pissed in the photos, and I'm sure they are, but these photos are from a few hours ago, and I'll bet by noon today they'll look just fine albeit low to the ground which is perfect.

Temps - 72-76F
Humidity - 49-56%
Light schedule - 18/6

I've left them with 8 main branches, but I'm wondering if they should only have 6. Does anyone have any experience with experimenting between the two? I want to let them get some more size before flower, but I don't want to have them splitting up their energy between too many branches.

Anyway, thanks for looking! I'm excited for next week's updates! I'll wager they're going to be MUCH bigger.

WEEK 10 OF VEG

Things are good! Parameters all the same except the humidity is getting low - 39% sometimes. Fertilizing heavily with fish poop nitrogen. Still deciding when to flower. I have some big things coming up in the next few months so I need to work it around those times. I'll letcha know what I decide. For now, some photos of their progress and recovery from pruning and training.

ALMOST WEEK 11 OF VEG EMERGENCY POST

Hey, so I'm going out of town, and as I was topping off the water for these plants, I noticed I have spider mites in the grow. I kind of freaked out and destroyed the webs I could see before thinking to take a picture of them. I saw another and tried to get a photo of it - it's posted here. They're unmistakably spider mites. I have to figure out how to get rid of them NOW while the plants are still healthy and the outbreak is weak. There were only 3 tents of webbing that I saw, but I'm sure the problem is deeper than that as it always is with these sorts of things. The parameters are the same as they've been.
18/6
~72.5F
~38% Humidity
Currently being fed organic fertilizers and watered regularly.

If anyone who sees this has beaten spider mites before, PLEASE SPEAK UP! Yes, I mean YOU! I deeply appreciate any and all help with this. Thank you so much for looking.

@chilliwilli I will absolutely look into that and order it if it's feasible to get it quick enough.
In the meantime, I am reading that a 50/50 ratio of water and alcohol OR Hydrogen peroxide will eliminate them.

Any experience with that remedy? At least for a bandaid patch job til big guns get shipped?

WEEK 12 OF VEG

Hey, guys. The spider mites are stronger than ever it seems. I have dunked each plant under water for 5 mins then for 10 mins a few days later. They are still there. I am dunking them again in hopes they actually drown since it is written all over the internet on horticultural sites that they can in fact be drowned. I have Neem Oil coming in the mail but it isn't here yet.

So far the plants still look okay, but they are getting worse it seems. Parameters are still the same. Wish me luck.
