Do you have any more info about this? Their instagram doesn't exist and the vimeo link they have doesn't either. It's a ghost on google. It doesn't look like that thing could apply much pressure?

I looked it up on vimeo and it definitely was a fluff promotional piece. I was thinking the same thing along the lines of lack of pressure. They don't get into any technical details at all about anything. Cool concept but I don't think you're going to be impressed with a unit like that for $100 bucks. You could easily do better making something yourself. It made me think of the MyDx if that's a fair comparison in the hype to details ratio.

the difference there is that IF it worked the mydx would change the game, and IF it worked the tarik unit would just be a cheap small replacement for a real press, that probably doesn't really do the job as well as "real tools"
tarik jawn looked like a damn dorm room sandwich press re-branded to me,

Soooo I finally got my FIRST hair straightener yesterday after waiting for awhile for it to get in. I had to end up using a dremel to remove the plates from the plastic backing as they had an inline fuse that was soldered through the plastic backing. I went to all the trouble chopping this thing apart only for it to blow apart when something shorted out on the back of the board. Went out and bought some ceramic straightener from a big box store. It was a lot easier to take apart but the wiring is a little odd in that there was two wiring assemblies that prevent convenient wire placement. I set the pads in place on the quick grip and found out that the lowest heat setting on this one is 310 ;_;. Off to a disenchanted start with rosin tech.

Dang whoDat, I'm bummed your off to a rough start.
You hav def got me kinda worried tho!!!
You say that your first straightener gave you problems shorted and was binned for another?.

IMPORTANT: did u use the model u posted in the link with the opening post?!

My straighteners hav arrived and now I'm worried to take them apart if they are the wrong type!?.:dance013::dunno:

Iv seen the posting on IG where you discuss this thread with arthritisSucks and found this.

Can any of you current 2.0 pressers (whoDat,ArthritisSucks,HMK)comment on if this is the right straightener to press into the grips? or should I return it?

I ordered the same one that I posted and that Arthritis Sucks posted. It was weird becasue I was hitting him up when I was running into problems (thanks again!) because even though we bought the exact same model mine was wired just a bit differently and was a huge pain in the ass. I would say go for it, worst case you're only out $25 right? I ended up getting and using one of the ceramic ones and it was fine. I'll post those pictures I took of taking them apart here soon.

The model is RVST2031BLU2

It was strange that they were a lil different with the inline fuse but looks the same otherwise.

i attempted to make a rosin press awhile back, ala hmk.
had ceramic elements, worked well for an hour or so and broke.
got me another straightener with Ti plates.
dolled it up real purty like...

all the tools i used to make it, minus a drill and bits (to make pilot holes in the plastics)

picture.php

i used a hacksaw (also not pictured) to cut off the important parts from the original rig.
pilot holes in the controls, cord swivel i salvaged
picture.php

i used some comm wire i had laying around, nothing crazy 18awg x 2 conductor
picture.php

just heated the plates up while compressed to make them "melt" themselves into position
picture.php

also drilled holes where i could fit them to support wires and whatnot.
picture.php

Tada!

Good call on keeping the swivel assembly and circuit board together in the original plastics. That will keep it protected more and less likely to arc and electrocute you or ground out to something.

definitely important to keep the housing around that swivel joint. that shit is full power straight from the wall.

Thanks guys, I only sawed off the round pivot point that connects the two sides of the iron.
And the parts that hold the Ti plates.

Ive got a similar style straightener model like that but a different brand that I just started to work on last night.

This is a fantastic way to do stuff for yourself. I'm wondering though, how much can you realistically produce in a day? Sort of feels like you'd need a little assembly line with a larger machine. I've seen people use T-shirt presses as well.

Just curious what you guys figure you can produce in a day. Even the guys just making the vice grip device.
