Hitch hiking

Cruising down the road in dads new Dodge travco 2+2 motor home(1976,7,Mn).

My dad pulls over for a couple of innocent looking dudes and lets them in our space.

Down the road we go.Music playing,(Fleetwood mac,8 trac,Rumors).

So we let them out at their destination and low and behold my sister finds a boulder of hash the size of the sun!

Gives it to my brother and says:this must be yours?

That hash was good! They must of been pissed when they found out they left it on the free ride they thought they had.

Hash,grass,gas,no one rides for free.

This is what happened, not saying it's cool to lose your stash!

I wonder if my siblings read this?

Hahahaha, I have hitched extensively in the west and north of Canada. Funny thing is, like 75% of peeps that picked me up were puffers. Got many a ride for having something good to puff with the driver. Peace GS

I think of the old days when things and people where more intertwined.

I hate to say that I would not pick up a HH these days. That saddens my heart!Because,I do like helping people!!!!!!!!!!

Selfish or not.

I think of the old days when things and people where more intertwined.

Spring Break, 1974 - my friends 'Dick and Jane' invite me to go along on their trip to Florida, but at the last minute they also invite this guy named Cameron, a Black dude.

No problem, we pick up the Drive-Away car, head on down and have a great time.

...... but then it's time to come home and there is no Drive-Away car available for the trip up to Baltimore, about 13 hrs .away.

Somewhere north of Miami we get out on the highway and put our thumbs out -3 white Hippies and the Black guy with the giant afro!

We didn't think there'd be any problem but 4 hrs. later we were still there - peeps just passed us by, pointing and laughing or giving us 'the finger'.

Obviously the only thing to do was to separate but this would mean that I would be hitching thru the South with the Black dude and this would be a bad idea, race relations were really bad back then and the only thing southerners hated more than Hippies were Black men 'stealing' their white women - especially a white women who appeared to be abt 17 yrs old!

So anyhow, just as we start to split up a van pulls over and a fellow Hippie rolls down the window and sez the magic words 'get in'.

Turns out these guys were roadies for The Eagles who were traveling north for a gig in Providence, RI. - they had boards resting on top of the equipment and there was just enough room for the 4 of us to lay there like sardines in a can, all we could do was turn over......

...... but it was more than OK 'cause they fed us and kept us properly medicated for the entire 'trip'!:thank you:

Those were the days.:blowbubbles:

Thanks, CosmicGiggle!

I enjoyed that read!

I hope the brother didn't forget his pic. That sounds like one of those fros you just don't forget.

PS I like the Eagles too.:tiphat:

This is a great story, reminds me of finding on of those grinders that separates trichomes in a friends car after an outdoor festival, opened it up to find about 2 grams of the finest drysift I had seen at that point in my young smoking career ;)

I think that the "old days" are where my mind and heart are even at 40yrs old, I would have loved to help ppl in that way and be able to find good folks to puff with along the ride. music was real and fresh back then too (yeah I think im a recycled soul from those times that may have died too soon)

but not these days, got a family to think about now. it still happens in the carribean though, but not too often, its truly rough in STT/STJ these days

Mr. Fast, my first thought was like many others, they left you a gift.
I have hitchhiked for the last forty years. Many, many good memories and some great rides. I even got a ride in an Amish carriage, hey a rides a ride, and damn sure beats walking. Doing much of my hitchhiking in S. E. Ohio, I'd say around 60-70 percent of my rides involved smoking some killer home - grown or some form of alcohol, from beer to moonshine. Hell, I even got laid twice, once in Ohio once in Cape Cod, thanks to hitchhiking. Only one bad ride I remember. Got a ride with three other guys and they thought it would be funny to ride past where I said I wanted out and act like they weren't going to let me out of their car. The
