hey all...I was wondering what people think of our dollar being equal/ at parity with the USD...I know for me it's plus buying seeds at the bay or bou..lol..Last night i was like shit I should just order some cause its the same cost as the us prices...I know the high canadian dollar is not good for our exports and manufacturing sectors..But oh wow is it ever amazing for buying goods in us dollar..I remember buying the GN03 C-99 f2 from the bou when the dollar was 69cents and i payed like 95 dollars instead of 80usd..
What opportunities now...just my 2cents lol

Agreed...The high dollar isn't necessarily so good for our country as a whole but for chronic online shoppers like me, :woohoo::headbange

Currency would stay most efficient as a non consumable item

I am liking it as I have some american items to purchase

It's a pain for growers who are in the export market. The price in USD$ for export product hasn't changed so it means the growers end up with fewer Cdn $ to spend

If I were an exporter, I'd be annoyed.

But, as luck would have it, I happen to be an importer. It's been a joyous online shopping experience this past week. We plan to do even more of it with Xmas around the corner, so my household is especially pleased with this.

Now, if we could only get UPS to stop this larcenous tax on collecting sales taxes, otherwise known as brokerage fees, I'd be even happier.

Sure, we try and request shipment via US Postal Service as much as we can - but some US merchants refuse to ship USPS. It's a pain in the ass, to be sure.

What's "the better weed"?

I have heard some stories of places not recognizing the exchange rate in some American stores. I'm not much of a cross boarder shopper, like to spend my money at home.

Support your fellow Canadians!!!

Living close to the US Border, I get to see all sorts of US citizens up here arguing with the store owners about the current exchange rate and what kind of change they should get back

I laugh at it, imagine going to another country and demanding a currency and how much in return

A high dollar is great when buying gear online...sure saves a lot when you,re buying lots....but in the end it does hurt ppl. exporting to the US.We deserve a break from time to time tho,I,m a happy camper when I get something from the US....every dollar saved is a dollar earned...

I do not think it is a high Canadian dollar.
More like a week unstable American dollar.
Therefore, comparing to American (which is what we do), we seem like we have gained.
But not.

Problem is we compare ourselves to a variable dollar value.
So it doesn't really tell the truth at first glance without digging deeper into economics.

Also note:
We are taxed up the butt.
Why else does a $0.99 American burger cost us $1.99 Canadian for the exact same burger, from the exact same franchise. Even when the dollar is even.
So we still save nothing.

Also note:
To buy product out of Canada, you will be charged importing duties, surcharges, and taxes. Not to mention the small shipping cost.
So it never pays to buy American from Canada. Again, even with an even dollar.

Canada is and I think will continue to see a lot of investors from other countries that used to invest in the US and Europe markets. This economic down turn or what they are calling it never really didn’t effected the Canadian economy as bad as the US and Europe because of our stiffer banking and borrowing rules. Canada right now is actually a good safe investment, besides if you are close to the US border you can get some great deals when shopping in the US. Just don't buy any seeds and try to bring over the border.

First thing I think of is time to buy some beans from SBoo...

Cdn = US = good deal on beans
