Greetings All, :tiphat:

It is time to start a new grow thread and a new crop. My old thread (The Hempy McNoodle Experience) was closed when I was banned two years ago. I'll link the old thread below for anyone who might want to see some of my old grows. Now let's get started!

Old thread:

Last night I began the germination process of two Pre98 Bubba Kush (feminized) in moist paper towel. In the past, I had troubles with nutrients and fertilization, until I started brewing worm castings teas and using blood meal, ash, and bone meal. But, I ended up needing to simplify things and got rid of my tea brewing equipment to make room for some camping gear. Hempy lives in a rather small apartment and space is very limited. So, I've been trying new fertilizers and regimens with unsatisfactory results so far. With this crop, I will be trying something new. My goal is to keep growing very simple and easy. So, with that in mind, I will be trying out some new products. I've been using the Recipe 420 soil with good results and now I will be trying out their two types of fertilizers. One is all purpose (for veg) and the other is a bloom fertilizer. I will also be using worm castings to top dress and might use some diluted coconut water at some point. I have no idea how well these Recipe 420 fertilizers will work, but I am hopeful and optimistic that they will do the job well. These are readily available in my region and that was one factor for why I chose them and why I started using this soil.

Has anyone else used these? If so, please chime in and share with us your results.

Alright, the garden is prepped. These are 10 gallon fabric pots in 18" saucers. Wish I had roomier saucers but, these should work as long as I'm careful not to over water.

Each pot has one 1.5cubic ft bag of Recipe 420 mix to which I added 1.5 cups each of the Recipe 420 All Purpose fertilizer, as well as 8 cups of worm castings each. I then watered with aprox 2 gallons of dechlorinated water (dechlorinated with aquarium conditioner).

I'll be using 2 of my 3 Optic 1XL CoB LED lights set to 17 hours on and 7 hours off.

BTW, these bubba eggs are from Cali Connection Genetics. I grew one of these out a few years ago and really liked it. It was great smoke that I went through very quickly. It had a wonderful 'fresh cut grass' terp profile. I'm hoping to get one that has that coffee-gas profile that this strain is famous for. But, either way the effects are most important. Bubba tends to come on strong and is very satisfying and soothing.

Awesome Mr Noodle im happy you are back. Glad to hear your camping too. Any outdoor planting plans?
Hey there sneezydog!

I think about guerrilla growing all the time, but it just doesn't seem very feasible here in the bay area. Otherwise, I really don't have any outdoor spaces that I can use. I found a thread here on icmag yesterday, where someone was growing up in a tree. I've always dreamed of doing that. So, that was cool to see and kind of inspiring.

You got anything growing sneezy?

:):) just got back from some travels so nothing going. Ya abes up a tree grow is a good watch. Its all about water....not climbing a tree twice a week, especially if its far away...but if its close maybe ok... itll get the smell gone and be above the ground moisture to help with bud rot.

These little things popped up on March 1st. Always nice to have a crop start on the first of a month. Start the month out right!

Update: So here's what happened. One of the two P98 Bubba fem seedlings ended up deformed and was a terminal seedling that would not grow any further.

IMG_20250309_155900544.jpg

This seedling was removed ..which kinda messed up my plans altogether. I had a plan b in mind and even a plan c.

But, by day 11, the remaining seedling had only grown at about half the rate I would normally expect to see. I noticed this low vigor in another seed from the batch in the past, but its also fairly likely that this reduction in growth was due to the new fertilizer regimen.

I made the choice to pull the seedling. And, start a different project altogether.

The truth is that I've been trying to reduce my seed collection and was just growing these to get the project off my list. I was excited because the one I grew successfully was GREAT STASH that went really fast and I was sad to run out.

But, now with this project off the list. I could get straight into what I really wanted to grow all along (which is really what its all about).

I dipped into my seed collection...

I reproduced these Underground Seed Co 'Black Afghani' line seeds in 2019. The germination rate has been 100% in the past. This time 8/10 popped. So, a slight reduction in germination over the last 6 years, not bad. I'll be reproducing them again sometime in the next few years.

My plan is to plant four in each pot and if their growth rate is normal, I will procede to send 6 leaf samples to a lab that can affirm their genders and select two females to grow. I'm excited because I've never grown this strain in 10 gallon pots seedlessly indoors before.

If they grow at a reduced rate, I will discard the crop and soil (save for vegetable gardening) and start all over with more Black Afghani (which, I usually prefer to call 'Kandahar Black') and will be going back to the old McNoodle way of fertilizing plants with castings teas, blood meal, bone meal, ash, and coconut water, plus more castings.
