Hempy AF's under the LED

Hey all thanks for checkin out my thread. Still new, I learn new shit every day. Thanks to all who have helped me get situated Onto the specs and pics!

Homebox XS (23.5" x 23.5" x 47.5")
BlackStar UV 240w LED (flowering model)
100% Perlite
GH Micro/Bloom Lucas Formula
pH usually between 5.7 - 6.2
4" Carbon Filter/Fan from HTG

Strains:
(2) Purple Mazar: Male is @ 31 days since planted. Female is @ 32 or 33 days since planted.

(3) Sour60: Staying in party cups, has some nute burn on all three but the new growth is looking great. Theyve really taken off since I put them under the LED. Oldest is about 21 days since planted and the youngest is 19 days since planted.

(1) Taiga: Feminised, just recently popped above the medium. Im aware of stability issues with this strain but like to live dangerously


Im an idiot and documented when I planted everything, but did not take note to when they actually popped above the medium. Pictures will be in the next post.

Looking good Joe! I like the stool in front of the box-- gotta have a place to sit and contemplate.

The more I've read about the hempy system the more I like it: inexpensive, suited to smaller numbers of plants, GOOD results..

I'm pulling up a stool, too.

Haha yep love the stool for when I have to pop in the tent and check shit out. Claude, hempy is cheap, I think I bought 10gal of Perlite from Home Depot for about $20, but I find myself going through nutrients rather quick.. At the time I purchased the nutrients I wasnt expecting to do Hempys, otherwise I would have gotten the larger size. It could also get a little messy if you dont have an adequate solution for all of the runoff. I normally feed the girl in the orange bucket in my shower lol.

I am fascinated with the Hempy system like any other system. I have a few reservations. Perhaps you have thought about this, perhaps you haven't. Im going to ask since I see the love of gardening involved, and its like Im a plant reaching for the lights!

How does the plant get micro-nutrients in this system?
How do you contribute to a complex flavor?

Im not trying to provoke you, but provoke answers. I used to sell organic farm supplies and so Im a little biased towards using compost, kelp, manure, guano, blood meal, fish meal etc etc The thing that always stops me from doing hydro is how do people get in some various organic matters. I feel like the adage, "you are what you eat" applies to smokes as well as fruits and vegetables. Or maybe its more about producing tree that is clean and easy,,, I don't know

As a side note I am really curious about that Mazar plant you have. Could you tell me what you know?

@ Claude - yeah i'm pissed, killed it in such a dumb way and I'm almost certain it was female (i killed the oldest). Now im stuck with a male (just checked before and its starting to form balls) and a runt that is starting to yellow on the lower vegetation (perhaps a nitrogen def? Im going to flush it first and see how it reacts)


@ skullz - hey man purple mazar is a Stitch creation, when i bought it i figured it was going to be a purple skunk/afghan.. But now i am unsure as my female mazar is beginning to look sativa-ish on her newer growths.
Your question of micronutrients, i am only feeding it GH Micro & Bloom a 8ml and 16ml. Sometimes I half the formula for lighter feeds. Your questions are good and I will surely be investigating more. Sorry i cant really answer more, Im still learning and investegating myself.

Also, when should I harvest my male? None of the sacks are really open, nor do I see much pollen on the leaves yet. This stud was planted 36 or 37 days ago, so that means its about 30-32 days old. As of now I'm assuming another week should be fine since I was told af males only need about 35 days.

I'd say another week and you will have some pollen..

The pollen sacks will get large and hang down on like a tiny wire.. (sorry couldnt think how to describe it better,, but you will know what i mean) when they get like that, they are within a day or so of dropping pollen

Lights on was 50min ago, I went to go check and noticed what looks like male sex organs on my final sour60 -_- ill keep em going for a little while just to make sure tho. Taiga is still under 10 days, not really doing much yet, and my female mazar is growing nice, just wish i did it in a full 5gal of perlite.


I want to do an SOG of purple mazar and mini mango for my next grow will be done in hempy two litres, i also want to try out Biobizz nutes and perhaps some carboload. Probably wont be until the end of may(thats if the taiga autos lol)

So when i hit my mazar girl with some mazar pollen, will those seeds then be f2?

Yeh you could call them your F2's so you know where you're at with them for future reference.

I'd remove the balls on the S60, and then just keep a close eye on it..

I've had AF's that will just put out a few nut sacks on a lower node, and then they just flower out as normal girls.. i'd call that a very minor hermy..

But others that flowered for the first few weeks as girls.. and then put out nanas in every bud..

If you only have a few plants going and you will miss the potential yield then i'd keep it going unless it goes bad hermy

Cool I think I'll try that on one and let them both grow. I want to collect some s60 pollen anyways so I don't have to buy more beans (plus a friend wants to trade some Mi5 for my s60). I'll feed them water and hempy runoff from here on out so I don't waste what nutes I have left.

Cool, i wouldn't put any pollen on the fem that put out a sack though.. even if it flowers out normally

For sure, I'm only gonna collect some if this younger plant is actually male, i just went and looked again and now im 50/50. Mdanzig also doubled my order for no charge so I gave a few to a different friend who just started growing them and will he making seeds as well. The other one for sure had some nuts tho, took off about 8 small very premature looking sacks on the middle growth and the new growth coming in.

hmm 8 sounds abit on the high side to me, but like i say just keep an eye on them, you will know how severe it is when they progress more

Here's a little update:

Approx 32 day old Purple Mazar female. I'm going to try and cut the bucket a little bit to lower the sides. She's putting forth an odor and I believe starting to flower.

And the younger s60's who are starting to show nuts. I began to pick them off, probably gonna ditch them they don't serve a purpose to me

The Purple Mazar looks very nice. Lots of branching. And she is flowering.
