Help with my new cab... please

Jnugg: Blagging techniques have improved it seems....not only has she said yes to the small budbox tent....she has gone and paid for and ordered it.... :)

My problems at the mo are:
- I only really want to grow 2 plants....learn from the experience and then try again.... with maybe 3 or 4....hopefully one day I plan to get another smaller box to home a mother and just clone....but for now I am stuck with the 75cmx75cmx100cm tent.... happier days!!

- I cant be too much of an additional drain on the electricity cost....(to keep her in doors happy) so I have to go for a 150w CFL.... again...ordered & paid for and awaiting collection....

So do you think that the (4”) RVK100 A1 will be enough to clear the air enough through a can filter???

I'm now not too worried about my temps as I've only got a 150 cfl....but what do you think???....
I'm yet to get a temp gauge so cant give details and I wouldn't want to guess on the highs and lows... its in the attic/loft so it will probably be quite warm in summer....
To compensate I was going to run my light over night (cheaper elec an all).... again your thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks for all the help.... you really have some serious grow knowledge and its a great help!!

ICMAG.... great website!!!

With only a 150w CFL and a grow space of 12.7 cubic feet, yes that fan/filter combo will work.I don't really see any smokeable material coming from this grow though as there simply isn't enough light to sustain a budding female.I would have atleast gotten a 150w HPS rather then a 150w CFL.The 150w CFL's usually only have up to 9,500 - 10,000 total lumens and a standard 150w HPS is about 16,000 total lumens.Idealy you would want atleast a 250w HPS or a multiple light source that consists of a total of 28,500 lumens.

Seedlings/Clones want 375 (more won't hurt),Vegetative plants need atleast 2500 lumens per sq/foot,and for a decent bud growth 7,000-10,000 lumens per sq/foot.With a 250w HPS or 270w HPS you could have supplied your area with atleast 5700-5900 lpsf.

Since you've already ordered though,You could try making a seperate are in the grow tent that measures 1' d x 2' w and this would give you 75 wpsf and roughly 4750-5000 lpsf.

I know you are trying to save money,it's your first grow but I was just trying to save you some time, money, and hassle.

GL and happy growing!

Jnugg: Ok. Totally understand your points. Thanks!!!

I had a word with the lads in my local hydroponic store and they said the same... In store we tried a 250w hps in a cool tube with the can filter attached....and a 6" fan as suggested..... very very tight with not much room to move the light around....So we hung a 4" fan and carbon filter at the back of the tent and then 2 x 125w CFL's with reflectors.... this was much better....
So I have now plunged for 2 x 125watt CFL. One of each spectrum....

Obviously not ideal....but do you think this will be ok? Do you think I'm better to have 2 of each bulb....so I can use 2 bulbs for each stage? or use one for seed and veg...then introduce the other and use both bulbs for flowering?

Thanks for all your help!!

Jnugg: Ok all now set up...and have let it run with both lights on for 36hrs....

Max temp...35'c / 95f...
Min temp...26'c / 79f...

Humidity ranges from 20-60%....

Currently I only have the 4" RVK 100 fan with carbon filter fast clamped to it....I will be adding a clip on 6" fan to blow across the lights towards the filter to aid in keeping temps down and air curculation up.

My highest temps were obviously in the day and lowest at night so I am still thiking that running the lights at night is best option... maybe on a 6/7pm to 6/7am when 12/12...

Whats your thoughts on my enviroment? I have both side vents half open on the tent....do you think opening these fully will bring my temps down?

Whats you opinion on controlling the lighting??
Do you think this will work....One blue for seeding....one for veg.... both for week 1/2 of flower then 2 red for flowering???
Or....
Do you think 1 blue for seeding.....2 blue for veg and 2 red for flower?

Thanks again for all the help!!

Hey man, after Jnugg advice i switched all my pc fans (kept one for moving air in the cab) for a 4" RVK in line fan. Iv also got 6 square foot growing space, I'm currently using a 250 hps in a air-cooled hood, fan runs like this -- 2 4" Passive intakes Filter > fan > air-cooled hood> exhaust to the same room. ambient room temp 75, cab temp 77 lights off. Fan on its lowest setting using speed controller.

because of summer temps im running my lights at night, will get temps with lights on tonight and post them up tomorrow. But i was messing around with lights on today and it never got over 82 so I’m well happy with that.

Id say a 4" inline will be fine, I'm buying a 400 as soon as September comes around.

Jnugg - thank you very much for your advice earlier in the thread, I might need a heater during winter now haha

Thanks again

Anyone got any good ideas on the lights??

I'm thinking it'll be best to have 2 blue for veg and 2 red for flower....

Thoughts appreciated!!

You can take a gander through our cabinet build (linked in my sig) for some ideas. We're also doing organic soil, so if you're headed that direction you can snag some info in our journals linked below. Wish you the best!
