Might be a silly question but being a newie figured I can ask. We can't just buy seeds here unless ya kno somebody I guess. I kno a couple of buddies but we've always grown outside and are nowhere near as specific as yall on strains etc. I want to buy some good seeds but wouldn't kno a good company from a rip off. It's the net ya kno. What store would ya use and whats a good starter strain? Gunna do the hemsy(sp) bucket thing this time. Gotta build a tent. I'm in Louisiana. Thanks.

lol of course light leaks cause hermies! how do you think breeders get rid of those traits in well bred strains?! they take a room full of the strain, and mess with the light schedule as much as they can, to stress them into a hermaphroditic state. then they select the few plants that don't hermie no matter how much stress they are given. a well bred strain has been treated this way several times to weed out the inferior wild genetics that cause the hermies(some wild strains always hermie). this is not a theory but fact, LIGHT STRESS CAUSES HERMIES!

the moon and stars put out such little usable light that for all the plant knows, it's not even there, and that's why most strains hermie outdoors, though many wild landrace sativas do it naturally, regardless of stress. i know a full moon and stars can look bright, but you must remember how many millions of miles away most of these light sources are, the amount of light they put out is much less than a crack in your flowering box would provide.

this is the reason why it appears that it's the genetics only that regulates hermaphroditic tenancies. because well bred strains have already been selected based on their refusal to make male flowers no matter what. when a breeder takes shortcuts to get seeds out fast with little actual trait selection and successive generations they often end up with products that will hermie with much less stress than a well bred strain. also, nowadays a lot of strains aren't really strains at all but hybrids of elite cuts, or selfed elite cuts. these elite cuts are nothing more than a single plant that was found to be much much better than the rest of the seeds of that strain. they generally don't become elite because of their reputation for being stable genetics. trainwreck and chemdog are examples of this and the original cuts are prone to stress hermies, as are many of the hybrids made with them.

I want to buy some good seeds but wouldn't kno a good company from a rip off.

as far as most of the members on this site are concerned this is one of the best sites out there to get seeds, they are also one of the biggest with over 100 breeders and probably over a thousand strains. your best bet is to sit down and think about what you want in a plant, potency, taste, type of high, ease of growth, yeild...then start reading as much as you can in the "strains and hybrids" forum on this site, there are a LOT of threads like " biggest yielding strains" or "best tasting strains", they have one for most colorful buds, most potent strains, sometimes you have to go through a few pages of threads to find them, but they offer dozens of pages of some of the top growers on this site voicing their opinions about what strains they like best and why.

i believe most breeders provide the best care for their plants and dont bother stress testing the parents. not all maybe but most

^^^^^^id like to hear a breeder or 2 chime in on that 4 sure^^^^

i thought stressing a seedbatch to find the most stable pheno if breeding was kinda normal, not that ive ever done it, tho im not a breeder.

but i for sure can spot a hermy flower on a bud from ten feet away!
its amazing how the whole hermaphrodite things is totally beyond some people, they are like "hey man, i got seeds in my buds but no males...." and i say "bananas" and get the curious dog look, head cocked. then i say "chix with dix" & get the same same look. then u gotta educate them.

lol of course light leaks cause hermies!

I never said they didn't I said it has little to do with it.

they take a room full of the strain, and mess with the light schedule as much as they can

Which backs up my well researched theory that it is not light leaks at a constant low level that cause hermies; but rather pulses of light in dark time which cause them.

the moon and stars put out such little usable light that for all the plant knows, it's not even there, and that's why most strains hermie outdoors

Non existent light causes most strains to hermie outdoors??? or is this a mistake.

because well bred strains have already been selected based on their refusal to make male flowers no matter what

Agreed

nowadays a lot of strains aren't really strains at all but hybrids of elite cuts, or selfed elite cuts. these elite cuts are nothing more than a single plant that was found to be much much better than the rest of the seeds of that strain

If they cant be bothered to isolate the freak good plant and take the time to stabilise the desireable traits, It shows us what? yes thats right there irresponsible breeders polluting the gene pool.

trainwreck and chemdog are examples of this and the original cuts are prone to stress hermies, as are many of the hybrids made with them

As I said polluting the gene pool for the sake of a few desirable traits. Or in other words?? IRRESPONSIBLE BREEDING

You see my seeds don't hermie (even with my light leak) because there well bred unlike so many "Elite" strains. I'll be keeping them thanks. :dance013:

my experience w seeds from herm bud is that they can create a great finished product seed free if you know what hermaphrodite flowers are. sometimes they dont herm till week 8 or 9. also seeds ive bought from seed companies herm also, thats what seems to me the consensus on this thread.
so what have you got to loose from popping hermy seeds? did u like the plant they came from? if so pop away

If people want to do that at home its all well and good; but do you not think selling hermie seeds is a bit shitty?
What happens when a novice grower who wouldn't know a nanner from there elbow invests there time and no little money and they're first crop is seeded to fuck?
Would you not agree that's a bit unfair?
I think its unethical never mind bad business (at least if the customer has a brain in they're head).
Personally I think given the legal position of our favourite hardy annual it would be the smart play for seed companies to stand above cheap trick business that goes on everywhere else.

I think that light leaks will stress certain plants into hermieing that don't hermie under normal stress. I have also seen plants that don't hermie the first grow turn out to be mad hermies after 1 year of age.

Is it in genetics? Yes but it can also be promoted by stressful grow conditions....

Feminized beans are just a trick made to help protect breeders lines.

Ok so is there anyone that may want to trade me some seeds? Preferably in western Canada.

I'd like to see if people get the same results and if someone gives me a strain they know doesnt hermie then i can check if I am doing something wrong.

Peace love and prosperity

Yea, like that ad at top of page for seed vendor. Totally not tolerated. And you really shouldn't mention marijuana. My folks would find that very offensive. And try to be supportive and not criticize. Always wear a condom but please refrain from intercourse.
